My recently acquired pacemaker seems set to keep my heart rate at 60bpm or above, which I know is standard.
However, I was a keen hillwalker for many years and a regular swimmer and cyclist before that and my long term RHR was more like 55.
I'm tempted to ask whether the pacemaker can be set at 55 instead because I feel this is more natural for me, and perhaps slightly healthier if the heart is worked a little less hard.
Any thoughts?

Hello, like you I’m keen walker, and also still run, cycle and swim, although all more slowly than before. It might be because I’m getting older as well!
Why not have a talk to your pacing team and explain about your lifestyle and concerns. There’s always room for adjustments. For example, my overnight ‘pace’ was reduced down from 60bpm to 50bpm. I’d told them that I kept waking up, so after looking at the data from my pacemaker decided it was safe to reduce my night rate. I sleep much better now!
It all depends on why you had to have your pacemaker fitted. Mine was because I had bradycardia, syncope, and sick sinus syndrome. However your condition might be different. It’s still worth having a chat with your pacemaker team though.
Now, if they could only tweak my daytime rate so that I can run two minutes a mile faster.✈️🐖😁
