Morning all,

For those of you who knew Handel ( Jan ) I am so sorry to tell you she sadly passed a way on Friday night. This was very unexpected, she was such a kind and beautiful soul, I know she helped so many of us here on the forum. She became a very dear friend to me, helping me through some very difficult times. I am sure those who had interaction with her will miss her wise words. My deepest condolences go to Clive to her beloved boys and her beautiful Grandchildren. Rest in peace my friend, I am sure your Mum and Dad were waiting.

My Best Wishes to you all here,

Pauline x

Morning ,

Thank you for your message, hope you’re doing okay. Sometimes life can be tough, Jan was such an optimistic person, over the past few years she has made me laugh so much, I used to tell her she should write a book! We all need a Jan in our lives.

You take care of yourself,

Pauline x

Yes laughter is the best tonic.

I had a few heart issues early part of the year and last Friday I had a heart stress MRI. Going through my notes before the scan they said "I can see you’ve had quite a bit of work done. Five stents and five bypasses".

I said yes, inside my chest looks like Spaghetti Junction but as long as the traffic keeps flowing I’m fine!

Hope you’re ok up there in the North.

Oh so sorry you have had a few issues, like Jan you make me laugh, Spaghetti Junction really 😂

Up here in the North! I am not too bad, due for this year’s echo on the 25th, ( would have been Johns birthday) hope it’s a good omen. It’s 8 years since the valve was replaced, so just hoping the little pig’s valve is pumping out a good pressure!

My eldest granddaughter is arriving from Australia later this month so something to look forward to. She will be here for 7 weeks. All over the U.K. and then she’s off to Europe and then back to Canberra and her final year at university.

Take care,

Pauline x

It’s good you’re getting regular checkups. I’m sure the 25th is a good omen. You and John were/are so close.

This morning I went to the dentist to have a wisdom tooth extracted. And this afternoon I’m waiting in Bournemouth hospital while my wife has a heart CT scan in the same department that I had a heart stress MRI last week. These medical trips at least gets us out and about 😂

I bet you’re looking forward to your granddaughter coming over. We really look forward to seeing ours and they live only an hour away.

Take care Pauline and all the best for 25th.

My goodness you should have your own chairs at Bournemouth hospital or maybe a season ticket! Hope your mouth is not too sore. Not one of my favourite places the dentist 😂 and hope your wife has good news from the CT scan.

I am very excited at the thought of seeing Lily in a couple of weeks, FaceTime is good but you can’t give them a hug. She was very close to her Papa and found Johns death difficult. So think it will be emotional for her. She wants to tour the highlands, and her Mum comes from the Isle of Bute so wants to go there. She is also coming down south, sometime in London and to see my youngest son and family in Poole, before she heads to Europe.

I have a bit of news I am going on a cruise next May! It’s a family get together, Paul ( Poole) and my family in the States. There will be 16 of us, started out as 6 and it’s sort of grew😂 we leave from Barcelona and do the Mediterranean. I did a trip with John before he retired, to the Far East, but that was on a gas tanker 😂 I was away just over 3 months, I traveled through the Suez Canal and it was amazing. Saw the most incredible things. It was something John had always said once the boys were away and before he retired I would do a trip. So very glad I did.

You take care of yourself and your wife.

We do have our own chairs. They're director chairs on the back of my wife's it says Boss and on mine it says Galley Slave 😳🤣🤣

Wow that cruise sounds awesome. That'll be great for you Pauline 👍

Thanks for your well wishes.

You take care too and enjoy your family time (I'm sure you will).

Morning Pauline, I did get some good advice from her at the beginning of my post op convalescence, that is sad!😢I don't go on this much lately. But when I saw your post, I had to read it as I was worried about you because you don't seem to come here much neither. I didn't know Handel personally as you did but I did receive some posts from her in the past.

I hope you are ok! I'm fine, but in the supported living accommodation where I live now, there's been quite a few deaths..Grim Reaper is certainly working overtime and has targeted our house! Since before Xmas four neighbours passed, another lady had a stroke in February, is at home now but not left her flat yet, another just last week had a fall and fractured her femur. The last victim is a man who lived above me. He passed on Sunday. So we all wonder...who's next ?🤔

I hope you're ok , best wishes and take good care of yourself! Much love

Monica xx❤️

Morning Monica,

So sorry you’re having such a rough time with people passing a way, hope you’re doing well though. Sometimes life is so very difficult. As I have just said Jan somehow made it seem easier, I think we all need a Jan in our lives.

Take good care

A few weeks back I had come back from Tredegar House and received some very bad news that a terminally ill neighbour had died and even though I had an idea it was soon and wasn't surprised it was still a shock to come back to that!

Many years ago when I was 16 my father had come back to the news that I had had sex with my boyfriend and gone on the pill and had shouted I didn't expect to come home to this!

Point is life is full of incidents you don't expect to come home to!

Hello :-)

I am taking a break but someone told me this very sad news and there was no way I could not come on and reply to this post

This is such a shock and even a bigger loss to Jans beautiful family and friends that are going to miss her more than words can express

For those on the Community Jan was such a loving member , kind caring and supportive and if you were lucky enough to receive this then you will know what we are going to be missing a wonderful person that gave so much to others in life if it be out in the real world or on here she always had a kind and loving reply which made you feel special just as she was

Life feels like it can be so cruel at times to take such a wonderful person far to soon

Jan will not be forgotten as people like Jan are so rare

Thank You Jan for the support from the start of me joining here , for the online cards you always sent me when you sensed I was feeling down and struggling that always cheered me up , for sharing about your wonderful Sons , beautiful Grandchildren and of course Clive who I know were your world and I am wishing them all the strength to get through this now you are not in their world anymore but I know you will be looking down on them and helping them get through this as that is you Jan a wonderful caring loving person which I was blessed to have had the pleasure of getting to know and your support

If there is a Heaven it has just gained a very special Angel that we will not forget :-) x

How are you getting on?

This morning it's a trip to the jobcentre to sign on but we have come early and decided to sit down in a cafe for a cup of tea we haven't been to for ages and have a chat about things as it's easier when there's someone else there to support you when you attempt things that are difficult!

Last week I was on my own signing on and called in at a cafe and dared to order a large breakfast and received a rude remark off a member of staff saying someone's hungry this morning and I was absolutely infuriated and vowed not to go to that cafe again!

It's a shame as I had gone there for years until that happened and my sister in law said no I wasn't being silly and overreacting to feel infuriated over those kinds of comments and she said with respect it's none of their business what you put on your plate and what you don't and how those kinds of comments are damaging and can hurt and no I'm not oversensitive for feeling the way I do about them.

Point is the loss is theirs at the end of the day and they have no business to make rude remarks to paying customers!

Hello Pauline. Oh I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Jan (Handel) - she certainly was a wonderful member of this forum and gave me some helpful and good advice when I had my operation 3 years ago as you did. So sorry for your loss as her friend, too. How very sad.

Do hope you’re ok - I read in one of your replies your granddaughter is coming over to visit from Australia. That will be lovely for you and hope you have a wonderful time together.

With all best wishes

Hello Sarah,

How are you? I don’t reply a lot on the forum nowadays. Though I do read a lot of posts and if I see something that I think I can help I will put something down.

Over the past 3 years Jan and I became really good friends, she was the rock that was there through the darkest of days when John was so ill and after he passed away. I have said it before but I will miss her all the rest of my life.

Lily arrives the day after Jan’s funeral, she will be out of Australia for 7 weeks, the last 4 will be travelling round Europe then back to Canberra for her final year at university. I am very excited to see her in the flesh FaceTime is wonderful but you can’t give that a hug😂

Hope you are keeping well, take good care.
