Triple by pass scar.

I had a triple by- pass in April 23 and appear to be making reasonable progress. I try and do flexibility exercises each morning and use a yoga mat. What I am finding is just moving position from one exercise to another causes a clicking feeling at the top of my ribcage. I can even hear it on occasion.

Is this normal has anyone else experienced it? I haven't sought medical advice as yet.

Hi, I had quadruple bypass july 25th 2023, I felt “funny” after one of my twice weekly yoga classes , then developed what I thought was trapped wind 🤦🏼.

Post surgery I was advised to walk and use increments, not lift heavy , keep my arms “in a tube” near to my body for any light lifting. I couldn’t go back to yoga for 6 months to allow my sternum to heal properly. The clicking sound is familiar, as I remember having it when I tried to get get out of bed in my own or leant forward sometimes. It really concerned me as I knew it was my sternum clicking. It wasn’t painful , just a bit unnerving. I was very mindful to avoid movement that caused it as I wanted to heal as quickly as possible and get back to some normality and full function. I’d suggest that you may need to review the movements you are doing that cause the clicking , maybe contact your GP/medical /rehab team . Have you done the cardiac rehab program?

I had a triple bypass almost two years ago and my sternum clicked for a while after the operation. I would say for at least a year but to be honest I'm not sure when it stopped as I just got used to it. It was only reading your post that made me realise it hadn't done it for a while.

Thank you, I think I'll at least get it checked or consult my GP. Glad yours sorted itsellf.

Absolutely talk to your GP if you are concerned. I'm afraid you have to keep nagging to get anything from our NHS at the moment. Hopefully you can get either reassurance or some action

It probably means your sternum hasnt healed properly and the bones are rubbing together as you move. I have a partially unhealed sternum 20 months on from surgery. I've been told to leave it unless it becomes too uncomfortable. In that case it can be plated together.

I suggest you tell your GP/surgery team. They my want to scan you to check what's happening.

Hmmm you need to be careful as in the first six weeks you shouldn't be doing much at all that really stretches your chest or puts weight through it. Everything needs time and the bones and titanium wire need time to fuse.

Yes it's 13 months since the operation, I'll probably consult my GP
