Struggling with Beta Blockers

Earlier this year i was told that I have A-fib and Angina. Following an Angiogram I was prescribed a range of tablets including Sotalol. This caused me some o the worst headaches that i have ever had and the doctor reduced the dosage from 120 x 2 per day to 80 x 2 per day. . The headaches continued but at a lower lever but i started to notice that my mood was getting wore.

After a month I was seen by the cardiologist again and he reduced the sotalol down to 40 x 2 per day. by this time My mood became even worse, it also seems to be affecting my concentration so I have asked if I can come off the Sotalol. but I am still waiting to hear back.

I remember that about 20 years ago I was put onto propranolol to see if they would help with my migraines. And they only made the Migraines worse.

This makes me think that I do not tolerate Beta blockers.

the brand definitely makes a difference. Ask for a change if possible. I was initially put on altenelol which made my left leg swell so that I couldn’t walk on it nor put shoes on. It also caused heart failure to speed up. They swapped me to Bisoprolol which is fine except seems to give me an upset stomach. Good luck!

Nondihydropyridine calcium channel blockers, such as diltiazem and verapamil have antiarrhythmic effects similar to beta blockers without some of their side effects and may be worth trying in place of beta blockers. Discuss this with your cardiologist.

Hello. Just to say your migraines could be due to caffeine. I suffer from migraines if I drink certain coffees. I don't know enough about stations to advice. Kind regards, rabbit55.
