calcium through foods

how do you know if you are getting enough calcium through foods, I have just ordered 500mg of calcium citrate, I'm not messing around measuring this and measuring that, and the 20mg of famatodine that I take won't help, the calcium citrate I bought is 3 capsules =500mg, I think I will just take 2 a day for now, because too much calcium supplement stops you from absorbing nutrients.

Is there any background or reason why you need to supplement? Do you have a condition that requires supplementation? Sorry I don’t have any answers other than the normal getting enough from food sources should be the recommended route. It’ll be interesting to see what others have to say.

why do Dr's say that you need a calcium supplement while on zoledronic acid infusion. before and after the infusion .

Hi, Radars,

Has your doctor suggested that you supplement with the calcium tablets that you ordered? I would suggest talking with your doctor before taking any new vitamins or supplements.

You can get blood tests to check your calcium levels—general level and free calcium. The amount of calcium being released through your urine can also be checked via a urine sample.

Calcium levels in your body can be too low or too high depending on what is causing the condition. For example, you might not be adequately absorbing calcium from foods, or you might be having a thyroid problem, etc., etc.

Please check with your doctor before taking such a large amount of a supplement on your own. Take care! ❤️

yeah, but blood tests don't tell the whole story, because it doesn't say how much calcium is in your bones, I drink alpro soya milk but too much of that isn't good .

If you are concerned with your bone health, have you considered getting a bone density scan. That could tell you about overall bone health—or if you are developing osteoporosis, etc. Your doctor could then suggest possible medications that might help.

I wish you the best in figuring out what you need.

Hi,I had a blood test years ago, which said I was low in vit d and also it's good for your heart so the doc put me on 1000mg per day, I was checked again and she said it wouldn't hurt to double that, to help with my arthritis too.

And the usual chat about diet and calcium rich food was had too.

Hope this helps
