Hiya, went to Sheffield northern general mon 22nd April, told by consultant that I need triple if not quadruple bypass surgery, considered urgent but 3-4month waiting list, my sisters have rang different places to find that some do keyhole or through a vein in the wrist operations, what’s your opinion on this please

Hello :-)

I have not come across keyhole surgery for a triple Bypass but maybe there are a few on here that have had it done that way even though I have not read a post that someone has done that has had it but if someone has had it this way when they see your post I am sure they will reply :-)

I had a triple bypass in Northern General and I had a lovely Italian female surgeon and it was better than what I imagined it would be

Hope you get your surgery done quick and let us know how you get on :-) x

Have you seen this just as some info?

nhs.uk/conditions/coronary-....

See the bit in newer methods as refers to robotic surgery.

Have your sisters called Papworth?

Good luck with your op whatever you choose

I haven't heard of those at all. I had a quad bypass and it wasn't as bad as I expected, recovery quicker than I thought would happen and actually not that much pain either ...and I don't do pain well 😆So if you have to go for that don't worry it's fine.

I had my triple in june 22. I was seen in the chest pain clinic a month earlier, had an angiogram and was told I needed the triple bypass urgently. I was also told urgently meant 3-4 months. The other three guys in my hospital bay had had similar advice a month or two earlier. They had all suffered heart attacks and had been brought in for immediate surgery.

I was really concerned and looked into the waiting time further, my daughter is a nurse at the hospital and knows some of the consultants. One told her the target was 4 months, in reality without having a heart attack the actual wait was 54 weeks. He advised extreme rest, doing no physical activity, not even standing for periods of time to cook.

I decided to have it done privately, it was really expensive and we struggled to get the money but I am so pleased I had it done quickly.

My surgeon is based at Liverpool chest and heart hospital. He was one of the first in the country to do robotic key hole surgery. I wasn't suitable and had to have open heart. He said he mainly used robotic for valve repairs.

Really hope you get your surgery quickly and it goes well
