After being told I have a leaky mitral heart I am waiting for a cardoliology appt. The hospital rang me a few days ago to say I need to go & have an up to date ECG before I see the consultant. I have been feeling terrible after coming off the bisoprolol ( was feeling very tired & pulse very low. I was only taking it for 2 weeks)
Saw my GP yesterday & he straightaway said 'angina' symptoms & has put me on 25mg Atenolol & 25mg of Isosorbide mononitrate.
Does anyone else take this Isosorbide monohydrate?
He didn't prescribed the under the tongue one as that is for angina that comes on suddenly & my pain was continuous.
Would be grateful if any one can tell me if on this drug, how you are getting on with it.
It's only my first day & I have a thumping headache but I know I must persevere.

Hello, headaches are a really common side effect of Isosorbide mononitrate that usually wear off but it can take a few weeks. Persevere if ISMN is helping.
Hi, I've been on 25mg mononitrate for about 7 weeks post angiogram and the headaches came on about 90mins after taking the tablet but eased in the evening. I still sometimes get a dull ache but nothing like the first month. Try and stick with them; the headaches will ease in time.
Thank you for your replies.Yesterday I ended up in A & E.
After seeing the GP & him saying I had angina on Wednesday & prescribing monitriate & atenolol. My blood pressure fell & my heart rate went really low. Pains in chest & headache was unbearable.
After ECG, bloods taken & a heart X-ray, I spoke again to the A & E Dr & he took me off the newly prescribed meds & said he didn't think I have angina & to push to see the Cardiologist as already proposed after my arranged ECG next Wednesday. X
