As the heart rate indicator on my exercise bike has stopped working and I've been advised to keep my heart rate below a certain figure, I'm looking for a simple, inexpensive wearable device that shows your heart rate. The only ones I can see online are complex devices that you need to link to a smart phone, which isn't what I'm after. I don't have a smart phone. Can anyone suggest a make and model of device which actually shows the heart rate on it without having to connect it to a phone?

I have a Polar watch and chest band which works well. BUT you have to keep waving your wrist around to light up the screen as it would use too much battery power to be permanently lit. Mine’s over 5 years old now, so they may have changed them, as it would be more useful to have the screen visible when exercising.
A Garmin watch with heart rate doesn't need connecting to phone. It want to to show trends but it shows the rate with out it.
I use an oximeter, one of the things you put on your finger to check oxygen saturation and bpm, relatively inexpensive
I am in the same situation. I want, purely for exercising, a chest strap, as these are the most accurate, and simple wrist watch as a receiver to read heart rate. I don't want to know ANYTHING else. The upshot is, I can't find anything!
I use Polar H10 heart rate monitor paired with an old Garmin watch
