It’s a scandal that only the NHS can get away with. A private 24 hour holter monitor costs less than £200 which includes the cost of sending the device out and return postage. Results within 24 hours. We gave up waiting and went for a 14 day holter monitor (£400). All the patient has to do is stick a patch on his/her chest and turn the small monitor on. No nurse/hospital time needed.

That sounds amazing. Hopefully I won't gave to do it again but will know for future reference. Thanks

Necessary rather than amazing. My wife had been suffering from temporary losses of consciousness for nearly 5 years. We had already had one and three day holter monitors on the NHS which revealed nothing of great significance. After a further episode, she was referred for a further one day monitor. No appointment was forthcoming so we went private. The 14 day holter monitor revealed some issues which necessitated the fitting of a loop recorder. Four weeks after getting this fitted, she had a further loss of consciousness. She now has a 2-lead pacemaker. Sadly, if we had left it to the NHS, I fear that we would still be waiting for a diagnosis. That said, the care that she received was first-class.

Is that the zio patch? , I’m interested as I’ve been referred for a NHS 24 hour ecg but I’m not convinced it’s long enough and it could be months before appointment or I get appointment but a while before results like last time.

It was a device from Cardioscan. We elected to see a NHS cardiologist that offered some private consultations. He recommended a Cardioscan 14 day holter monitor which he booked for my wife. The data is analysed by a computer programme and the consultant gets a detailed report to review.

Thanks for the information, I may seriously look into this thanks. Hoping to discuss with my cardiologist soon. 👍

that’s a terribly long wait. Hope results are quicker. 🤞

Guess the only little positive is they are seeing people on a Sunday too.

Good luck with monitor.

👍
