hi guys

I went up today to get fitted with my monitor for these horrible skipped beats. The nurse was lovely and answered my questions but I am so nervous and anxious about today and the results I have been told it can take up to two month for the results but anything major they would contact you straight away. Can I ask you guys who have had it recently how long a wait and who phones with results ? Xx

I have been told by my consultant that I've had the most 24 hour monitors then any other patient of his lol. I have it on for 48 hours and then send it back and sometimes takes bout 2 or 3 months to find out the results x

awww really lol x so is it your consultant who calls with results and has yours been ok if they have waiting the full time to get you your results x

Sometimes they call only if they have to tell you they found something on your monitor, usually its in a letter a few months later x

Aww thank you I explained to the nurse how I suffer with severe anxiety and she said she would put a note on to maybe even call to say the results rather than wait the full time but I know how busy they are and I know a lot of people are waiting for results I just need to hope everything’s good x

I recently had another holter monitor for 7 days. It took about 3 weeks for them to get back to me with the results. Although I waited a year from the referral which was made last year to get the holter done.

Hope you have a positive outcome from your test.

All the best.

No one usually phones with the results; they go back to the person who requested the monitor ie GP or consultant and you should be t old next time you see them or, if there is a problem, you may get a call or an appointment from them. My last monitor earlier this year only took 3 weeks and the ectopic beats ; thousands of them were totally harmless.

thank you so much for your response it is reassuring to hear that ectopics can be harmless they are scary when they happen x

OH yes they are scary. I spent a whole year having tests to find out just where mine were happening and whether they were anything to worry about. They happened at such random times, the monitors or ECGs could never catch them. I could guarantee if I had a monitor, I wouldn't have any ectopics. In the end, they did a stress test ( The treadmill) and left the electrodes attached when I sat down to recover and only then did I have some so they could finally find out just what and where they were. It was a huge relief but it still took me a long time to come to terms with them and gradually, the less I worried, the fewer they became until they stopped.

I’m so glad you got to the bottom of it and I hope you’re coping well with them. I had the monitor on till this morning and I swear they knew as there was hardly any to catch were as the day before there was loads and most days I get them x

I only get very very rare ones now; maybe 2 or 3 a year that take me by surprise like a sudden hiccup. I don't even think about them now.

Did they discover what was causing them and how to minimise them x

Mostly anxiety. The only way I minimised them was to find out that they were harmless and just ignore them and stop worrying. As I said it took me a while but they reduced in number then just stopped.

that’s great that it was all anxiety x it is so crazy how much physical symptoms anxiety causes. I’m glad yours have minimised and your doing good Hopfully I won’t wait to long for my results and work on reducing them x

I too am experiencing ectopic. They've increased greatly over last 3 months. I'm awaiting a halter monitor. My concern is they'll be missed. I've had them terrible most of yesterday and this morning but none this afternoon. And non last week. I understand they can be harmless but I do find them scary. I hope you find out what's causing yours. Best of luck.

yeah I get them most days and thought with the holster on they would pick them up and low and behold on that day had hardly any maybe a handful of that and today when it’s all done they have came back x

This is the problem. With a monitor when your not having them regularly. I just wish they'd stop and I could get back to normal. Hope they've picked up enough of your ectopics fir them to discover the cause. Stay positive I know its difficult.

I had a 14 day monitor earlier this year and got the results the same day that I handed it in. I had an abnormal rhythm though which was picked up. Mine was through the gp though so not sure if that makes it quicker or I was just lucky. It was then 5 months until I saw a cardiologist to follow up from it though and that was an urgent referral too!

Oww wow I’m not sure if it is quicker with a gp and I can’t believe that’s an urgent referral 5 months I hope your doing ok.

The waiting was the worst as I didn’t know what to expect. But I get atrial tachycardia which the cardiologist isn’t worried about and had a normal echo scan so just learning to live with it and manage it with propranolol. I also suffer from anxiety and stress and that definitely makes it worse. Knowing what is happening has taken the fear away from it (most of the time!)

I had a 24 hr monitor fitted and was told the same. I waited 4 weeks for my results. The GP practice nurse called to say I have ectopic heartbeats which basically means extra beats. She advised it was pretty common and in my case not serious. I have also been put on 1.25mg of Bisoprolol and to be honest I very rarely feel my heart pounding. I’ve since had my blood pressure checked and all looking good. Please try not to worry but if you do have concerns call your GP. Good luck.

Thank you I am going to contact the practice to see if they would do a few bloods as my folate was low before and it could be having an impact on the amount of ectopics I have. X
