Open heart surgery and home!

So I wanted to say a big Thankyou to everyone who gave advice or has written posts in the past who have given advice on going through open heart surgery. Every single date I’ve had for surgery has been affected by the doctors strike and so I had begun to loose hope, when 12pm last Tuesday St Bart’s called and said be here in 2 hours we are operating tomorrow! I had no time to prepare and yet I didn’t need to as I was already packed thanks to you all 😊 Big shoutout to whoever suggested Asda post surgery bras, they have been supportive and affordable (I’m saving my M&S ones for later!) Not gonna lie it was brutal, but I was discharged Monday and am recovering well at home. So I wanted to add my own suggestion, when I was shopping for those button up short sleeved pyjamas, we happened to come across perfect ones in Primark - but they were barbie a pyjamas, bright pink stripes all the way! My daughter insisted I buy them and I joked that I was going to wear them as my going home outfit. The thing is I did, and being able to put them on that last day gave me the biggest smile (and all the nurses!) It felt like such a huge achievement to wear them home and was such a fun picture to send everyone! So when you pack, choose a special going home outfit and look forward to wearing it with pride 😊

…. Also pack in advance as when they say it could be last minute they really do mean it!!!!!!!!

Miss Doolittle, what an encouraging post! I’m in awe of the way you took a scary thing and turned it into a manageable thing, with a smile. That’s real courage. Hoping all goes well hereafter. Please keep us posted on the recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Well Done You! It’s: so lovely to be home - safe and on the mend. (I was 2 wks in hospital with my O.H.S last year). Just take it steady, try and rest and don’t be tempted to do too much. I hope the rest of your recovery progresses smoothly. ❤️‍🩹
