Popliteal Artery Stenting - success or nightmare?

Hi, I have developed intermittent claudication in my right Popliteal Artery just behind my right knee - pretty much where the knee bends and can only walk short distances before pain kicks in. I am 68 years old, just retired and am an ex-mild smoker.

Has anyone had a Stent placed in this particular area, which hasn't fractured, and is still going strong more than 5 years post-implantation? or

Has anyone NOT had a Stent implanted and has improved with walking exercise/drugs?

If so, would be grateful to know the type/name/manufacturer of the Stent used or success without Stent implantation. I'm due to have the operation on 14/02/2024, so urgent response would be great! Thank you.

Hi,

I decided not have the procedure to place a Stent in a 'moving part' that would immediately be subject to stress and have elected open surgery to remove the blockage in my artery (which is 80% blocked) instead. I believe that is the right option for me. Thank you for reaching out 🙂.
