confused!

So after being diagnosed with Heart Failure 9 months ago my Cardiologist says my prognosis is good and my life expectancy stats are between 10-15 yrs! When I told my Heart failure nurse she says take that with a pinch of salt! The numbers are based on older patients than me!

I’m feeling pretty healthy. Going to work / gym. On the max dose of Entresto. My EF was 23% last year. Haven’t had another echo since!

Hello :-)

I would take the good news and it seems you are looking after yourself really well which is going to help you reach that 10 to 15 years your Consultant quoted :-)

Take each day at a time like you are doing and enjoy it :-) x

Hell Bekind. The Cariac nurse seems to think as the meds are working and I have a CRT-D it shouldn’t affect my normal life expectancy too much! I’m 59 at the moment. Maybe she’s being optimistic! I know it’s a difficult question for anyone to predict.

Hello :-)

It is a difficult question to predict I agree but I suppose even people without heart issues who knows what can happen to them however because you are doing so well and looking after yourself I think they sort of have a rough idea what the outcome could be especially with the meds working as they are :-)

I’m going to be positive and go with my Heart Failure nurse. The Doctor did only speak Statistically. They both seemed really impressed with the Entresto and Dapa that’s now used. Hopefully my EF has improved significantly since last May!

Hello :-)

Sounds to me you are doing well and the treatment is working :-)

Let us know if you find out if your EF has improved at some stage I hope it has :-) x

Thanks Bekind. I will post an update. I’m not due an echo until the summer though. It’s so difficult waiting!

Hello :-)

I know the waiting is the worse but hold on to how well you have been doing and that appointment will be here before you know it :-) x

Hi Kennydope! I'd go with your HF nurse as well. I really scared myself, reading things online about life expectancy (I'm 30 and really hope I have longer than 10-15years!!) But from speaking with my cardiologist they don't seem to have huge concerns around this and are more interested in getting me on meds that work for me. They've said I will likely be on the medications for life, but that I should have a normal life expectancy...

I hope this helps, as I know how scary it feels being given a figure like that.

I hope you get an echo done again soon and continue to feel healthy and well 😊
