Hi

I have an appointment for CT Angiogram next week and I am not sure whether to go for it as I am bit nervous about the process , side effects and results .

Earlier Due to my symptoms - left side pain and shortness of breath hospital did all the test which came normal only my resting ECG was bit different . But they forward me to CT Angiogram as I have blood pressure and to confirm whether all okay .

Anybody faced like this like whether to go for or not if all other results came okay but you still have symptoms please - Thanks

Sorry to ask your experiences

what are the side effects - radiation effect / dye and how long you feel that ?

I am taking Blood pressure medication Ramipril so still will they give Beta blockers .. will that be okay

Thankyou

Good morning Hopingstar. I can only speak from my own experience but I had the CT angiogram about 2 years ago and had no effects at all, they chose that for me to save me having a 6th angiogram as my veins and arteries arent in a good way. I personally found it a very easy procedure and didn't last too long at all. I am sure there are more people on here that will put your mind at ease. Hope all goes well for you when you have the procedure.

Hi - I was in your place in October 2022... Slight abnormality on ECG but not alarming. I only had very slight chest pain on exercise. Normal Echo and healthy heart. I was offered normal angiogram but felt I didn't need it so they offered me a CT angiogram instead as less invasive but not as accurate. I am so pleased I did the angiogram despite being so nervous .... Don't want to sound dramatic but it did save my life.... Identified100% blockage on my LAD .... collaterals had kept me going.... The procedure is very easy. The need to give the beta blocker to slow the heart enough to be able to get a clear picture of the heart.... But you have staff watching and monitoring throughout. No after effects at all.

Hi, I’m on ramipril and bisoprolol and I’ve had an angiogram, CT and a few MRIs with dye. Haven’t had any long last side effects and they do a lot of these procedures every day and they are very safe. They must have a reason to do this procedure- believe me that they only do it if they think they need to because of cost and time taken

I assume you are talking about a NHS appointment and not private.

If so, people can wait a long time for these appointments and as already stated to you, they can save a life.

If you decide not to attend can you please inform the hospital now and not just decide on the morning so that someone who desperately needs the procedure can fill the appointment.

Also if you don't attend, it may cause problems for any future investigation.

As other replies have said, they must have a reason for the appointment and have set aside a time just for you which has a cost to the NHS.

As long as they know you’re asthmatic beforehand they will take all necessary precautions. Discuss / mention it again before test. I’ve had angiogram and mri with adenosine and I’m asthmatic. They will have assessed risk. I don’t recall asthma flaring during test but I would say I’m mild asthmatic but my cardiologist does not prescribe me beta blockers anyway. You will be heavily monitored. Good Luck.

Hi I was in your position last week wondering if i was making a big deal about being unwell and didn't really need to go. I was very nervous but went ahead had it on Friday so 6 days ago . It was nowhere near as bad as I had built it up in my head (I'm scared of needles)everyone kept me informed all the time what they were doing and the most sore bit was the band on the wrist after to control the bleeding . I have a nice bruise on my wrist and a little tenderness there but otherwise fine. Please go ahead and get it done if nothing else it will put your mind at rest :)
