22 years old with Myocarditis

Hi everyone. I’m a 22 year old male. I was diagnosed with myocarditis in December 2023. It’s been a scary time. I’ve been doing slow walks but generally avoiding doing much activity. I have just had an MRI scan which shows that my heart is still clearly affected by the infection. I’m hoping that with time and rest my heart will heal fully. I’d be grateful for any advice in terms of the recovery process. It’s been helpful reading about other people’s experiences with this condition.

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed with this at such a young age. Like Weetabixie, I don’t have any experience with myocarditis but there are a few forum members that do. I will tag Captain_Birdseye with the hope that she may see the message. Meanwhile, you may find the following links helpful.

Please know that you need plenty of rest with this condition. I believe it can take up to 6 months to see a difference in your wellbeing and recovery depending on how severe the infection was.

Good luck.

Hi Beachboy1

I'm suffered with myocarditis and I was also in my 20's, I didn't know I had it until it was almost healed, I think it was about 9 months for me, but it's been found early you'll be well looked after.

I can take a while to heal and everyone is different, take your time and follow the doctors advice

Hi Valentina98

Thank you so much. That’s interesting to hear that you didn’t realise you had it until so late on. I hope your heart has healed fully now anyway. Yes I’ll definitely take my time and try to be patient.

Take care :)

Mine was due to the virus that can't be named on here (begins with c) I was running a lot and I have asthma so if I got breathless I thought it was that. If I had pains in was indigestion. Unfortunately I ended up having a heart attack while out running one day, once in hospital and had an MRI I was told I had myocarditis.

But I'm better now (despite a cardiac arrest and pneumonia) I'm back at work and back running, I do 5k every week and I did a 10k in September.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear that. Did he have an MRI scan before he started exercising again? I’ll take things slowly.
