Can't catch my breath

I'm in between diagnosis of TSS and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. At first a few times when I woke suddenly not being able to breath or swallow I jumped up and got my breath back it was quite frightened. Now some two months on its happening again I have throat infection and cold and am blocked but I'm scared now to drift off in case I can't breathe again. It seems to be when I lay on my right side. Does anybody else get this please?

Hello :-)

I have had this when I have had a cold and all bunged up I think your nose can be blocked and then in your sleep you shut your mouth and so breathing air in and out through your nose or your mouth is just not happening and you wake up feeling you cannot breath

But I would talk to your Doctor and see if they think it is due to this cold or if it could be something else

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Yes I will thank you I was wondering about sleep apnea too I haven't slept well for around 3 years and my husband said I snore loudly, make strange noises and blowing 🤭

I have similar issues. I had a test for sleep apnnoea, it turns out i have mixed sleep apnoea. The consultant explained when i lie on my back i hence obstructive sleep apnea, when i lie on my side i get central sleep apnoea. So im now on a CPAP which im sturggling to use at the moment due to a combination of a bad cold and dust mite allergy.
