Getting out of breath

Hi all, I had a heart attack on the 6 Feb this year, I was rushed into hospital and had a Stent fitted immediately. Following this procedure I felt great, I’m on lots of drugs as you would imagine. However over the past week I have been getting out of breath when doing housework and walking. Obviously because of Coronavirus my 12 week follow up appointment was cancelled. Not sure whether to get it looked at. Any suggestions would be good.

Hi Tigger61, yes please get it checked. You could start by ringing the cardio nurses. It might just be the meds. I suffered fatigue for about Six months after my heart attack so there are a whole variety of possibilities but it is so important to get it checked. Best of luck

Did it hurt having the stent fitted? How uncomfortable was it afterwards please?

Had the stent put through my wrist under local anaesthetic, fabulous procedure no pain and instant relief after it was fitted. It was however done as an emergency as I was having a heart attack at the time. Very little discomfort afterwards. Hope this helps.

I had an emergency angioplasty due to a massive HA. Two stents inserted. After a VT the following day I was kept in hospital and after a week and lots of tests and scans had two further stents. It is the most remarkable procedure and nothing to worry about.

Did you have the stents fitted via angio plasty and what is a vt.

VT is life threatening abnormally fast heart rate. Staff rushing, black out, defibrillator etc.

Yes, two separate angioplasties. It all went like a well oiled machine. Brilliant procedure.

Did you change your lifestyle as in lose weight (if required). Is your waist half your height? Do you eat a very balanced diet after the procedure? How much daily exercise did you carry out and what is happening to your rate/pulse. Have you had your bloods/sugar levels checked?

I suggest you chase up your hospital and express your concerns. An ECG would be helpful and a review of your medication may be useful. Start digging - the consultants secretary might be a good place to start.

I too had a stent at the end of February. Didn’t have a heart attack but had been suffering lost of breathlessness diagnosed as unstable angina. It was said I had a severe lad . After a couple weeks I felt great and raring to return back to my busy healthy lifestyle in the gym etc.

obv the lockdown interfered in that but I have been excercising regularly at home outdoors. This last couple weeks I’m starting to Get breathless again unless I do things very slow. Bending to tie my shoes Leaves me extremely breathless, so am hoping it’s just a bad couple weeks and I’ll recover again.

Exact same situation for me. Heart attack and stents end of February. After a few weeks started feeling good. Then about two weeks ago lots of missed beats and frequently short of breath. My doctor is not concerned with the skipped beats and says he’s confident we can correct it with the right medication. I wore a heart monitor for the last two days and he will assess it tomorrow. The shortness of breath might be due to allergies since it is that time right now in the US. I have taken Claritin the last couple days and it seems better.

Appreciate your reply. .. Just been out cycling today and at the start I had a couple hills which tightened my chest so had to stop for my spray , then rest Of it was flat so was ok with that . No allergies here in uk . Hope your results are ok and it is just a blip

Heart monitor results showed early “ectopic” beats which many people have without even being aware of. They are not dangerous and my doctor isn’t concerned one bit. I still have shortness of breath but my heart rate and blood pressure are both great, so it’s probably medication-related. I’m just dealing with it and hoping it eventually goes away. I also gave bad anxiety so it could be that as well.

Is it a feeling like asthma? After my HA and two stents I was fine for a few weeks then started to get very breathless. TIcagrelor has that as one of the side effects. It got so bad that not long before a second angiogram and because my GP wouldn't do anything, I stopped taking it as I knew I would be seeing the consultant in a few days. The consultant was of course annoyed but changed it to clopidogrel and I was fine. I really couldn't stand it any longer, I was getting panic stricken. Ring your GP or go to A&E.
