Does anyone know what this result is please
It should tell you whether it’s normal or abnormal by giving you the normal range. I recently had mine done. If I was you and I’m worried I would speak to whoever ordered the test. All the best
this result shows that your number of nucleated red blood cells is less than 10 per 10 with 9 noughts after it the symbol in front of the first 10 means less than - the star after 9 indicates that it is 10 to the power 9 - the slash means per/for every L (litre) - reading these is about the only time when those algebra lessons come in handy!
if that is unusual the person who ordered it will be in touch to let you know
I'd take that as a very good result.
Normal mature red blood cells have no nucleus, so when nucleated (immature) red blood cells are found circulating in the blood it's a bad sign; it is when they get to a level of around 1 per 100 white blood cells that serious questions need asking (about what exactly is wrong).
Your figure is massively below the figures that would spark concern; it might even be an actual zero (which is the normal level), but they have quoted the detection limit for the very sensitive test used.
