Holter results, bradycardia as predicted...

So, I got my results and as I predicted, it came back with bradycardia. I'm a male, 26 yo, 74kg(160 pounds I think), caucasian. I take levothyroxine 50mg for subclinical thypothyroidism, escitalopram 20mg and valproate 500mg( for anxiety). My symptoms are classical symptoms of bradychardia, like dizziness, extreme fatigue, confusion/memory problems, brainfog, near-fainting...

Now I'll consult a cardiologist.

Does anyone suffer with bradychardia here?

Cholesterol is high( LDL 170mg/dL HDL 24 mg/dL, total cholesterol/hdl ratio 8.8:1)

**CONCLUSIONS**

Recording performed in 3 simultaneous derivations, with amplitudes: C1, C2, and C3: 10 mm/mV and a duration of 23:58 hours. Fundamental rhythm: sinus, with an average heart rate (HR) of 59 beats per minute (bpm) and variations between 40 and 127 bpm. Periods of bradycardia predominantly during the night, but also present during the day. Totaling 9:56 hours, corresponding to 40% of the recording. Rare moments of sinus tachycardia with a total duration of less than 01 minute.

The analysis of the HR graph, the tachogram, and the analysis by the sleep apnea module DID NOT detect events compatible with hypopnea or obstructive sleep apnea.

Absence of ventricular ectopic arrhythmias.

Isolated and rare supraventricular extrasystole.

Absence of atrioventricular conduction disorders.

Absence of significant ventricular repolarization alterations.

Normal Heart Rate Variability.

No symptoms during the examination.

Well the bits I understood sound good for a young male who is fit. Which I assume you are. Was your Dr reassuring? Did you ask any questions? Like many on here, anxiety is the cause of a lot of negative symptoms and I hope you’re feeling easier now than you sounded in your original post.

I'm not fit at all. I haven't been exercising for at least 6 months. And I'm symptomatic as I mentioned.

Yes I do have bradycardia too, but I also have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and when I get some symptoms similar to yours I always put them down to the A.Fib. But I also think that some are owing to the anxiety I feel when the episodes start. It will be interesting to hear what your cardiologist has to say..

I too have both bradycardia and hypothyroidism, and know very well that the two are closely linked. I am not a doctor, but from my own experience, I know that some of the symptoms you describe may be attributed to hypothyroidism. This suggests that your hypothyroidism may no longer be sub-clinical, and I would urge you to have it investigated more thoroughly. If you consult a cardiologist, make sure you mention your thyroid.

hi.. my GP has been advised by Endocrinologist Consultant that as yet i don’t need medication for possible hypothyroidism.. more blood tests in March.. have been diagnosed with NOCAD possibly have MVA but Cardiologist said because i haven’t been tested for MVA he can’t verify condition!.. obviously not keen to arrange testing for it lol.. but i don’t think he knows about the thyroid abnormality.. would it actually make a difference to him if he knew?

Hi,

Hypothyroidism is known to cause bradycardia, so it's worth mentioning it. It may not make any difference, but would give him a bit of extra information to take into account when deciding on your treatment.

Yeah, definitely mentioning it. Although my TSH is at normal levels now. Thanks!

Hello. I'm 47, female and am overweight but relatively fit and strong. I was diagnosed with bradycardia after I went in to hospital with pleurisy - totally incidental. My bpm was 37 when I went to docs for ecg. There's nothing wrong with my thyroid. Holter test results confirmed it is sinus node disease - the spark plug to my heart is faulty. Have they ruled that out for you? In hospital I had a CT scan and an ultrasound scan which showed my heart is healthy. Like you, I feel tired a lot, and out of puff, have brain fog and sometimes feel dizzy. I am now seeing the cardiologist at the end of the month about a possible pace maker fitting. I hope they get it sorted for you. I am still getting my head around getting a pacemaker but am looking forward to getting it sorted and having some energy!

Thanks for your answer. Actually, I started taking glycinate magnesium and it seems to be helping. Really weird. I've done serum magnesium and it was fine, but I've read it doesn't show properly if you have defficiency or not.

That's good to know. I've been taking a cheapy one from Tesco's so perhaps I need to look at that again . Glad you're feeling better.

I'm sorry about your condition. For someone your age it must be worrying. I'm a 76 y/o female recently diagnosed with A-fib. I've had bradycardia for as long as I can remember, but lately I've been feeling more tired and sleepy in the p.m. I put it down to age. My most persistent symptom is dizziness and lightheadedness to the point where I'm nervous about walking outdoors. I miss walking and exercising like I used to. My cardiologist prescribed blood thinners, but I'm scared to take it because of the side effects. Sorry I don't have anything helpful to add.
