Anyone else experience insomnia as side effect to atorvastatin?
Insomnia: Anyone else experience... - British Heart Fou...
Insomnia
Insomnia and nightmares are listed as uncommon side effects of Atorvastatin typically affecting 1 in 100. If you believe it is interfering with your life I suggest you discuss it with your GP who may be able to offer you another statin which does not have the same effect on you.
Not specifically from Atorvastatin or any statin because insomnia is part of the course with my Tachycardia condition.Insomnia and broken sleep can also be a symptom of various cardiac conditions , hypertension or Hypotension , because the heart rate may not be well managed or the change from lying down and change in BP or heart rate which happens then can confuse the nervous system as it tries to send you to sleep. Sometimes it can take a while for our heart rate to get back under smooth management after a heart event even if we've been on medications for a while.
Often , we can assume it is a drug side effect because we started taking them at the same time that these symptoms started because of something else.
If it is the Atorvastatin, you could ask the GP to swap you to Rosuvastatin, or another type to see if this would help.
What dose are you on and when do you take it in the day?
Do you take other medications or supplements that may also be causing the symptoms or adding to them ?
I thought it was causing mine until I forgot to take my ramiprill tablet last thing at night I only took it at that time as they gave it to me in hospital at that time . That night I slept much better so put it down to that.
hi , I had trouble getting to sleep with Atorvastatin Dr lowered the dose and now I’m fine on it.
Thankyou for replies. I decided not to take it for couple days and last slept like a baby. I'm going to get a review with GP today.
I take mine in the morning, no trouble sleeping now
Hello, there are many side effects from Statins, and plenty of research online with regards to discussing with your doctor about switching to another statin to determine if that results in less or no side effects.
I have tried all the statins and they all produced different side effects, I eventually changed to plant steynols and so far, so good.
Your insomnia sounds like it's not part of a statin issue, as typically you take your statins before you go to bed?
probably best to separate the issues, statins Vs Insomnia with your GP.
Best of luck

Yes I did. When I put that question on this super forum many people suggested I speak to my GP and some said it doesn't matter what time you take the Atorvastatin so long as you take it. They were right my GP said to take it at any time during the day so now I take it after my lunch with my Clopidrogel and yes I do most nights get to sleep easier.
