GP has told me to take Bisoprolol at night as he thinks that is causing my dizzyness.my BP was 124/80 he didn’t seem concerned when I said it’s high in the morning and he said it can take up to 6 weeks for meds to reach their full potential.he said he’s happy for me to do gentle walking on flat surfaces and to use my Gtn spray once before I do.I showed him my Gtn diary and he said my angina is severe.I’ve been assigned to a cardiologist so I rang up and the wait time for urgent referrals is 10 weeks+!

Am wondering wether or not to pay for a Consultation but have no idea how it all works has anyone on here done that or has any advice for me.thanks so much for all the advice I’m very grateful.xx

Hi i saw two Cardiologists who then corresponded by letter, and both agreed I should take bisoprolol in the mornings because they believed that my body requires it more in the day time when I am more active, than when I am asleep. And I have to say it does seem to be working. It just shows you how opinions differ.

I was thinking the same I’m going to try it tomorrow and see what happens thanks for your reply xx

First I suggest you investigate how much a consultation with a cardiologist in private medicine will cost. Initial interviews are usually more than follow up but I imagine that you are talking upwards of £200 per consultation irrespective. So check your local private hospital for costs, e.g Nuffield or Spire and see who is practising and decide whether there is any one who you like the look of, and check whether they need a referral from your GP. And if you decide to go ahead write down all relevant medical information in the form of a briefing note before your consultation, since you are paying for the consultant's time and that will help things along considerably. Finally if any tests are required any costs are additional.

Hi there I found out if you go private to see a cardiologist consultant is about £250 to £500 and if you need any tests need doing it's going to be alot more than that. For example to get my Aortic Root Dilation fixed by keyhole surgery it will be £30000 but it doesn't state if that includes the aortic valve replacement.

I was told last year that the wait to see a cardiologist was 12 months following an abnormal ECG done at my GP practice. By July last year after waiting six months I decided to ring the local private hospital to ask the cost my seeing a cardiologist privately it was £165 so I decided to yet again said my fast dwindling savings and booked the appointment and it was the best thing I ever did. The cardiologist listened to my history my family history which was very relevant and over three months I had all the tests at an NHS hospital waited three months for the results which I didn't mind and was diagnosed with mild CAD and moderate LVH no surgery but yearly tests and new medication. I would say if you can afford to pay then do it who needs the added stress of having to wait months for such an important appointment.Take care.
