Hi all,
Currently looking after my 78 year old father at home 3 weeks after his quadrupole bypass.
He seems to be recovering well. Walking short periods, has an appetite, not depressed. But I have noticed his hands very swollen and puffy.
The day after his surgery his fingers and toes were extremely puffy and I know this is common, but I’ve noticed it seems to maybe be coming back? I could be hallucinating or over analysing but wondering if this is common?

He could have fluid retention but we cannot say as we are not medically trained and it could be anything
I would speak to the Doctor so they can give him the right treatment to sort this out which I am sure they will

Sorry to hear he's had such a major surgery. It does take time to recover. However it is always important to report any new symptoms. I would suggest contact his GP, cardiac nurse or try ringing the BHF helpline for further advice
Definitely call the GP about it.If it is water retention, which is possible , the GP will be able to prescribe something to help before it gets worse.
If there is another recovery symptom it's better to get advice to deal with it sooner rather than later.
