I have been on Atrovastatin 80mg for a couple of years now and have just had my annual Cholesterol check. Surprisingly it has risen slightly, bit concerned as my diet has not changed (I am really careful in what I eat, rarely drink more 4/5 units a week) and nor has my exercise routines in fact if anything I work out harder now.
Last Years:
Cholesterol 2.73
Triglycerides 0.78
HDL (serum) 1.13
HDL ratio 2.42
LDL 1.24
Non HDL 1.6
This Years:
Cholesterol 3.16
Triglycerides 0.64
HDL 1.4
HDL ratio 2.24
LDL 1.46
Non HDL 1.75
Should I be concerned? I have to go to see my GP about something else so will discuss with them.
From a positive angle my Triglycerides have dropped and my HDL risen
Thanks

Overall your cholesterol is still low so obviously your statins, diet and exercise are all keeping it down successfully. Our bodies do need some cholesterol so maybe yours needed slightly less this year. I certainly wouldn't be remotely concerned about it slightly increasing. However as you are seeing your GP again soon it is definitely worth mentioning even if only to provide you with the reassurance you need.
I was once told by a dietician that cholesterol in food for example eggs/prawns, if eaten 24 hours before a blood test can alter the numbers. There is so much information and misinformation about cholesterol so I wouldn’t necessarily say that is gospel but it might be an explanation.
