hi I had a stemi heart attack on 11 August this year.did angiogram and plasty.couldn’t have stent as my arteries are too small and the stent is only 1 size.I had to stay in hospital for 9 days as my blood pressure wouldn’t come down.so I’m almost 9 weeks on my bp is still not right.had a lot of chest pain the other day and went to A&E as advised by my GP.my bp was 176/102 they gave me morphine and some meds and it went down to 156/89. They have done an urgent referral to Cardiology and mentioned a by pass which has sent my anxiety into overdrive.I wasn’t able to have Cardiac Rehab as my angina is unstable.but have since heard that other people have had it with my condition.I’m very scared and very weepy.just reaching out for advice as I feel really lost.thank you in advance.xx

Hi, so sorry to hear what you're going through right now. I know how scary hearing by pass mentioned is, I was lucky angioplasty and stent worked, I've had 2 different size stents fitted a month apart due to time available in theatre for an nstemi heart attack 4 months ago , so I don't know why they've said only one size? Unless that's all that was available at the time you had the angioplasty. Wait until you see the cardiologist they may be able to give different medication etc. You don't say if you are on any medication. Everyone here is really nice and helpful as are the BHF nurses and helpline. Hopefully someone will have more knowledge than I do and perhaps a similar condition or experience and be able to offer advice. Hopefully the appointment won't be too far away. Wish you the very best and hope everything will be ok

Thanks for your reply yes I am on quite a lot of medication my GP didn’t want to increase it any more and was going to write to cardiology had my bp not come down.so I guess it’s a waiting game now

Hello :-)

It is perfectly normal to feel down and weepy and scared to

I remember after my heart attacks and they said I needed a triple Bypass I was petrified

One of the arteries that needed doing was round the back or something so they would not have been able to stent it so Bypass was the way to go with all 3

If they feel this is what you need then do not fear it as it will give you a new lease of life

Members have had Bypasses with COPD all sorts of conditions and they have been fine and I am sure you will be to :-)

Let us know how you get on and when you want to talk or ask questions want reassurance just come and ask and I am sure someone will reply to you :-) x

Hi, I couldn’t have stents following my heart attack , angiogram showed blocked arteries and I was told I needed a triple bypass. It ended up quadruple. The surgeons were really blasé about it , they do thousands of these procedures and say it was a big deal 40 years ago and now it’s just looked upon as new pipe work. I’m chuffed that I had new pipes instead of a stent or two , had the procedure on 25th July and now making an amazing recovery. It is obviously a big deal for us as individuals and the early days at home were a bit of a trial and learning curve but soon pass. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions if it helps .

Don't wait too long; keep phoning and maybe even ask for a cancellation. It has been known for referrals to get lost. Tellthe secretary how bad you feel and how anxiety is making it worse,

I had a heart on Christmas day 2022 and was initially told my LVD was too blocked for a stent but the following morning was told they could blast some of the "furring-up" using ultra-sound via the angioplasty.

This was successful and the stent was fitted straight afterwards.

Make sure your consultant is aware of this technique, mine gave me the impression this was not a common procedure.

I’m not sure if they will do that at my cardio appointment.my meds were doubled for angina and for 2/3 days it was great no pain but it’s creeping back last couple of days.I’m on monopril xl 60mg twice daily think it’s just a waiting game now until the cardiologist sees me xx
