If it were me, and I fancied a Chinese takeaway, I'd have one x What in particular are you concerned about?

Scared of everything scared it could him damage I guess I know they say in moderation and that’s fine hence why only 1 a month takeaway but it’s just me it’s so soon after that I worry I feel like I am so over protective but he is so low at min feels so useless not doing much round house etc so I thought it may cheer him up a little but I wouldn’t want it to make his heart disease worse lol I know it sounds crazy just difficult adjusting :( thanks for reply

If the occasional chinese takeaway is going to cheer up your husband then go for it. However take away meals are usually heavy on fat, salt and calories ,so a healthier option might be to rustle up your own stir fry, with plenty of vegetables, lean chicken or similar, then at least you will know what has gone into it, and you might find it actually tastes better and might even save you some money! How about Chicken with Lime, Ginger and Cashew Nuts off the BHF site or one of their other similar recipes.

For sure have a takeaway! The psychological benefit is something to look forward to. The salt and fat isn't great but you need a break too. Also, the drugs you are put on post op had a huge impact on my hub's mood. Lowering cholesterol through the floor, hr and bp down. That plus shock ...well the occasional takeaway is I believe fine. My husband is disciplined around the treats but when he gets too disciplined and sad, it's time for a treat. I have heart failure so avod salt but would literally give up without the odd packet of salt and shake crisps without the salt. X

Not being funny but he really needs to think more healthier options now if he doesn't want to end up with another heart attack. There's recipes out there that are tasty 😋 but not fat or salt contents. Really think about how old he wants to get to.

I love Chinese too for my occasional treat but to be honest I think I'd leave it a few more weeks after his operation than this.

It's great that he's feeling more himself but he could easily end up with indigestion or heart burn if he has a take away now , even a less fatty one , especially if he's been eating basic food for a while ; and as well as those symptoms making him feel worse again it could put him off his favourite Chinese for life.!

That would be a shame.

Would he be happy with a homemade stir fry instead?

Glad your hubby is coming on so well , wish him luck from me and good wishes to you . Hearties partners , just like you, all need a big pat on the back for looking after us , take care , Bee

Hello :-)

There is no harm in having the odd takeaway however it is full of everything that is bad for us

I had 3 heart attacks and a triple Bypass and even though I know if I had an odd takeaway I would be ok in 3 years I have not touched one at all I try and look for healthier options like a big stir fry so I know what I have put in , noodles and I make my own egg fried rice so again not to much oil is used

I would have waited a bit longer than 3 weeks but everyone is different one of the main things as well when you are having a treat is portion sizes so I am not sure how much he used to have but I have tried to cut down all my portion sizes by half if I can

I hope your Husband makes a good recovery and just to say if he gets offered Rehab then encourage him to go as this will help with so much including asking about treats :-) x

Hi I had a heart attack and stent put in a few weeks ago, I was just wondering how you had another heart attack? Well how you had another 2.

Did they miss something on your first attack? Thanks

I’ve given up takeaways and after much researching and feeling weird after them I realised I get palpitations after anything with soy. I’ve chucked away some tofu I recently bought to try for high protein diet when I realised it contains soya. Chinese full veg rice doesn’t sound too bad or something like that but life’s for living…. Enjoy if he’s going to have a takeaway but don’t overdo it. takes care 🦊x

Go for it.

If he fancies the occasional Chinese Takeaway then let him have one.

What would life be without the occasional treat?

If he follows a healthy well balanced diet a Chinese one a month won't make a blind bit of difference to his heart and artery condition.

Hi. Is your concern related to the use of MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) in Chinese cooking. They tend to use a lot of it.

I've given up on takeaways, used to love them, but after eating one these days it affects my arrythmia. Heart beat gets erratic for a while.

Indian seems to be the better option, for me at least, but spices such as Ginger can be problematic as well.

I think it might be a question of have one and see what happens, if all ok, a occasional treat, but otherwise it's not worth the worry.

As people have mentioned, do your own stir fries, at least you will know what has gone in to it. 🍴🍜
