mitral valve
Sorry I can’t help with the mitral valve query but I will tell you not to worry just yet until you’ve had the test and results back. Sometimes we imagine things to be a lot worser than what they actually are. Even if the results come back not in your favour, I’m confident the doctors will put a plan in place to tackle the problem effectively.
I hope others come by to share their experiences of issues with their mitral valve with you.
All the best.

Hi Leilavivienne
Did they say what the issue was with the mitral valve? Or they don't know yet? I can't help with the mitral valve but I do know what it's like to have an issue with a heart valve my aortic valve is extremely damaged it's bicuspid, leaky and narrow ( severe aortic regurgitation and moderate stenosis, will eventually need it replacing hope you don't need anything surgical just yet or even at all x I'm sure your appointment will hopefully shed some light on what's causing the problem with mitral valve x ❤️
my husband had sudden mitral valve failure 3 yrs ago - he was prepared to expect a repair or replacement of the valve via a sternotomy - they successfully repaired his via port access - you would never know he had had heart surgery as the scars on his chest and groin have virtually disappeared
Unfortunately his heart journey since hasn’t been easy but the mitral valve surgery was successful and working well
If you need surgery ask about all the options of access
Best wishes
Depends what it is, I have MV regurgitation which was monitored by echo but now to be done by MRI as I have become symptomatic. I am on medication to open blood vessels and this has helped.
Hello Leila Vivienne. İ have moderate mitral valve regurgitation and have had a couple of echocardiograms. An echocardiogram is basically an ultrasound. İf there is a problem with your mitral valve, it will be classed as mild, moderate or severe. İt is only if it is severe, that surgery will ensue, so try not to worry. İf it is mild to moderate, you will be monitored on a regular basis and may be given medication. You will also be told if you have mitral regurgitation (valve can't close all the way causing blood to go backwards) , mitral prolapse (valve stretchy/can't close as well as it should) or mitral stenosis (valve has narrowed). Obviously, the BHF nurses on the helpline can probably explain in more detail. My problem was caused by a childhood disease but simply ageing can cause a problem with the valve. İ can totally understand you not wanting surgery again. Good luck for Saturday. Hopefully you will not be at the serious stage.
