at 49 I’ve finally realised the not sleeping and feeling head fog for the past years is not having a late child (7 now) and a stent (1.5 now), it’s perimenpause as I’m now getting a lot of hot flushes (heat not helping here!). Periods still normal if closer together.
But I’ve also being having more high blood pressure (which had gone down to super good after stent)… and more aches, but not specifically after exercise, so cardiac docs are sure my tickers fine…..anyone else here had HRT which has then helped their BP? I’ve got docs appointment and hoping to help the sleeping and high BP in one fair swoop!

I started on HRT the same age as you... patches rather than tablets due to the high blood pressure. They worked wonders. I stopped them in my late 50s but soon had a return of hot flushes and additionally numerous UTIs, GP prescribed vaginal estrogen which sorted the UTIs but not the hot flushes and I begged the GP a year or so ago to prescribe the patches again.
Don't suffer, talk to your GP and if you get no help then get a second opinion or ask to be referred to a menopause clinic.
Ihi i was 49 when i had my heart attack and stent fitted and have stopped having periods but had terrible night sweats. Went to doc and got prescribed the patches. Started to have periods every 2 weeks!! Was told to give it six months to settle down. Well I gave up after 3 months as couldn't cope with periods every 2 weeks and was totally drained. The only solution apparently is the coil to help with the periods that having hrt patches will do. Currently I'm just living with the night sweats and feel the GPS just don't want to know. Tried sage leaves didnt help either. Yes the patches helped the night sweats just didn't help other things!
So sorry you’re still having troubles- sounds like an ideal doctor would try out a few different things to help you find what works best- maybe see if you can get to a menopause clinic? Night sweats are horrid! I used to have lots but that was after drinking/eating a lot and liking nice fluffy duvets….doh!
Be so nice to get some better info on HRT for hearties. My GP told me because of my HA, I could not have HRT. I struggle to find any information on the Internet around this - maybe not much research around heart patients and HRT??
Yes! Especially as it’s brain and bone health and so much more that can be affected by menopause/the run up… I think they shy away from anything that hasn’t been trailed- but HRT treatment are nowadays ‘simply’ putting back a body identical hormone/s that we used to have anyway, so I don’t understand why it still has danger-labels on it. Definitely be great if more research/braver docs can step up!
