Hi I am having an Angiogram/Angioplasty on the 22nd of September and have my pre-op on the 18th, what is the normal recovery from this procedure if nothing is actually carried out after looking through the arteries and recovery if a stent or anything is done?
I am currently doing the BHF 10,000 steps per day for September so was wondering how much time I may possibly lose?

My husband was really ill before having his angiogram and needed stenting during procedure as had 99% stenosis in artery which had been stented in 2007. It took him a while to fully recover although felt better with new stents as was not getting pain and breathlessness. If you are so fit before and you do not need stents sounds like hopefully will be plain sailing. All the best to you hope it goes smoothly.
It must depend (as mathematics suggests) on how fit and well you are beforehand.
I have had plenty of angios, with only one slower recovery time after I’d had 4 stents in one go, and it turned out I needed a further stent a few days later,
I usually have a very quick recovery time, just the entry points can be sore. The groin entry point taking longer to heal, than wrist entry.
On the whole I felt much better after.

I’m awaiting my third angiogram (week after yours) so my first one they were going in to do a stent and have a look. Ended up stenting one area and leaving the other.
I felt pretty terrible for a few weeks after the first one, back in and out of hospital.
Long story short the area they didn’t stent was causing and issue.
Went back in a couple of weeks ago and I have a bifurcation or something, basically disease wherw he artery branches so they came out and didn’t stent.
I felt fine after this one.
It also depends where they go in mine was both through right wrist.
Guideline wise it’s no driving for a week and nothing strenuous, no lifting no putting bins out no washing up etc .
Thinks is more the risk of the entry point.
No strenuous exercise for 4 weeks after a stent but if your just walking and take it easy should be ok I think - you will get advice and hopefully cardiac rehab will ring you day after !!
If their go through groin that might impact a bit

Hello, I've had 3 angiograms. Recovered quickly but haven't had to have anything done. We're all different, I'd advise to check with your consultant or cardiac nurse who'll know your history and health status. I hope all goes well.
Just an angiogram, à couple of days, with some soreness at the entry point. Stents are longer but you should feel fine almost immediately. You still need to limit exertion for a few weeks and hopefully will be offered cardiac rehab.
Hi Kelvos. Angiograms are a big thing these days. They are so expert at doing them it’s all over in 30 minutes even if you need stents. It will take you 4 weeks to get over the procedure safely… just to be sure that is. You may feel great but you must remember you’ve has am operation and it takes time to recover. In my case I’ve had three, two of them with work done at the same time. My problem is adjust to the medications. Now that’s hard in my case. Like you I was a 10000 step a day man and this time I feel it’s going to be hard slog to get there. My last PCI was this week on 3rd September. Good luck. Mike
I hope my expeience can be of help to you: I had 3 angioplasty x 2 stents put in each case. In one case I was on standby for groin entry, but was not required, so all angioplasties were via wrist entry.
After each procedure I was sent home by the evening! Was told not to exert myself too much for a few weeks. Had much better recovery rate after last stents put in. Medications and diet adjusments neccessary for long term care with guidance from cardio-rehab.
3 months later, with phased return to work, now in full time work (not bad for someone who's 66)!
