In 2018 my husband had a minor stroke and was given clopidogeral as a blood thinner. He had investigations looking for the cause but none was found. He had a healthy heart with no signs of ischaemia. I September 2022 he accidentally mixed up his tablets and failed to take the blood thinner for two days. Two days later he had "an event" this was almost certainly a heart attack though it is not confirmed. His symptoms were sweating, stomach bloating and he could not continue to walk uphill. He had virtually no chest discomfort so we did not realised that it was heart related. 5 days later he had difficulty in going uphill again and we contacted the doctor. He was diagnosed with heart failure and persistent atrial fibrillation.
We understand that normally blood clots from AF cause strokes but as they could lodge anywhere in the body could the heart attack (NSTEMI) have been caused because of an AF generated blood clot?
