Hi NamelessI use my oximeter every day (probably not a good idea but do it anway) and I noticed that my heart rate changes dramatically one minute it's 90 something then drops to 60 something or even 50 so I think it's just normal for it to do that. I noticed in your interests about hypotrophic cardiomyopathy so is this the heart condition you have?? Being anemic probably doesn't help your GP will probably give you iron tablets that's what they did for my sister she's anemic aswell. Wish you all the best with your appointment x
For normal use I've got a sports watch that does the job, I believe many people use things like the fitbit as many will now record pulse rates. When I'm exercising I use a proper heart rate monitor with a chest band but I acknowledge they aren't cheap. I had mine from the days when I was cycling to keep fit and wanted to keep an eye on my heart rate.
With the set up I've got, or even the newer fitbit, you'll get 24/7 monitoring unless you get a flat battery somewhere. That's an issue my partner sometimes has when her fitbit goes flat.
It was my Cardiac Rehab Team that told me not to rely on the pulse rate from my oximeter when they saw I'd got one. I guess it depends on which one you have, mine, despite what I was told, seems to be pretty accurate albeit none are certified to medical standards so don't be over reliant on what they say.
For the benefit of the OP I'm nearly 71 and post op my RHR is in the low to mid 50's, it was in the low 60's until I fell ill when it went up into the high 70's. Whilst ill I was breathless at the slightest exertion.
