I’m now at home, I was stunned yesterday when they came and told me your valve is working fine, you’ve reached all our protocols and you’re ready to rehabilitate at home. The cardiac rehabilitation team came to see me and explained all inc the pain and breathing problems but told me it would all return in time and they r certain that I will walk into my follow up appointment in 7 weeks. There r problems in the NHS being caused by ….. you all know who !!! Get them out, but I’ll tell this not once EVER did any member of nursing staff from the cleaner to the surgeon ever say a bad word to me. If you want to know where the angels are- they’re in hospitals.
To all you wonderful wonderful people who have contacted me over this journey, none of which I personally know I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I will continue to keep you informed of my progress.

This is brilliant news and I have every faith you will walk into your 7 week appointment
You should look back at your posts and see just how far you have come it is fantastic and looking forward to following your recovery and hearing you are getting stronger with each day
I am glad you received just good care you deserved it x
This is the good news we've all been waiting for but none of us more than you, no doubt. 😊Follow all your instructions and take it easy, it's not a race and do it all as and when you can and at your own pace.
Very best wishes for continued progress and improved health. This is the start of your new journey.
Ah wow I'm so happy to hear your finally out of hospital bet it felt great being home and in your own bed, wish you a speedy recovery and take care mate x
That's fantastic news. Totally get your point about the staff. Last time I was in bloke in next bed said it's like you leave the world outside. In spite of all their frustrations, poor treatment, staffing issues, etc not one of them , like you say from housekerping to consultants, ever said anything bad.
Most excellent news Ted. Its so nice to be at home. I appreciated it the first day so quiet and could finally relax and be sort of content with life. Yes the team where i had my op i can never thank them all so much in what they do day in and day out, although i never got a wink of sleep. I am on week 5 of recovery and cant wait to go back for my follow up. Gonna bring some chocolates for all on 4b ward as they bloody deserve it. Just think you can watch the womens worl cup final on Sunday Well done for your progress and keep it up......slowly slowly. Fantastic news again and wish you all the best in your recevery. Stuart
That's really brilliant to read, Ted - I've no doubt you'll be walking into that appointment in 7 weeks time! Don't forget to follow orders, take your meds and do everything they've recommended, and take it one day at a time. This is the real start of your recovery - a few good nights sleep with proper rest will soon have you feeling more like yourself and able to do a bit more each day. Please let us know how you're getting on when you have time. I'm so delighted for you - you've done amazingly well - and so quickly too. You should start a daily diary and note down any good things that happen and when you look back over it in the months to come, you'll be able to feel so proud of yourself at how well you've progressed. Carol
Glad to hear you are home. Please look after yourself and take all the help that is offered in terms of rehab. Wishing you the smoothest of recoveries!
Excellent news! Now you can begin to recover....home in time for the world cup!! Enjoy the luxury of the peace and quiet (visitors permitting!) and slowly begin your recovery. You'll walk into the hospital apt in 7 weeks time......do keep us informed of your progress.
Well done Ted! Now the recovery really starts... at home where you can relax. Keep positive. Life is going to get better, much better. As we hill walkers say, " onwards and upwards". 😀
Fabulous news Ted. From another fellow heart valve warrior to another, onwards and upwards ♥️.If you use Facebook then please think about joining UK Aortic and Heart Defects Pre and Post surgery group for loads for support 😊
Really good to hear that you're doing so well. I was just thinking about you. And I agree with your statements about the NHS... suspect it might take a long time to sort tho!!
So pleased for you that you’re home, listen to your body and take every day as a bonus.
Glad to hear of your positive experience in hospital, my son is a junior doctor in his 11th year of training, he’s doing a PhD about early detection for Pancreatic Cancer linked to Diabetes plus on call general surgery at the moment until next February then a further 2 years of training then hopefully a consultant post in HPB Surgery.
Oh it's so good to hear you are home so quickly where you relax and recover better. You have done well to come through everything and I hope your recovery continues. Take care and enjoy your day. Brian
So great to hear...congrats..hope you have some help at home too..it takes time to heal..you cannot rush this..I would like you now to try to lose some of that weight..now you can do anything you put your mind to..remember that..also slowly..so reward yourself with veggie soup instead of cookies..lol..anyway..so happy that you are well enough to go home as hospitals have a lot of sick people in them..and lots of infections..which you cannot afford to get now..so be strong..and dedicated to improving all your lifestyle with that well functioning heart you now have!!
Hey well done Highburyted! You’re home yay! Look how far you’ve come, obviously still need to time to recover at home but just being back where you belong in your own bed surrounded by your own things will help you. Give yourself time, take the meds, do what the medics have told you and I’m sure you will walk with your head held high in 7 weeks time. You’re amazing- keep your chin up ❤️🧚🏼♀️
OH wow, wow, wow, I did NOT expect that so soon. That's absolutely fantastic. I hope you have plenty of help at home but at least if the pain lets you you can now catch up on your sleep. Thrilled to bits for you. Tiny steps now. What a fighter you are. WE LL DONE
I’m over the moon for you that you’ve been able to go home; I’m sure your recovery will accelerate considerably with the added benefit of your own bed and a decent nights sleep each night 🙂
Can’t wait to hear your next update and I’m keeping everything crossed that you are able to walk into your 7 week rehab session 🤞🏼🤞🏼
That is simply the best, to quote an old song! What an inspiration you are to us all. We all know the varying experiences we can have whilst in hospital but treasure those moments and care that make such an undoubted positive impact on our lives. Rest and recover higburyted and celebrate your rehab. Take care, Judi 👏👏👏👏👏🤗
