i have had a hiatus hernia since 2014 and told it was 4cm sliding, been taking anti acids ever since as stopping causes heart burn, in april i had another endoscopy was then told my hernia was 2cm and ever since then i have had a husky voice and at least once a week a feelling of a tight band around chest and it only goes when i vomit my main question is has any one ever been told their hernia has shrunk and had similar problems since an andoscopy

I was diagnosed in 2007 with large sliding hiatus hernia. I was diagnosed with endoscopy. Apart from a slight sore throat l was ok. I don’t think your symptoms should have gone on so long so l would speak to your GP. I recently had a barium meal for stomach pain and my hernia is slightly bigger. I have never heard of them shrinking. I really do think you need to talk to your doctor about all of this and find out what’s going on. At the moment you are shooting in the dark. Best wishes and get well soon.

I am pleased for you that you are now getting some help. I think they will get you sorted out and that upping your medication should help. Don’t eat late at night as that can make it worse. Eat small meals and often to cut the acid. Don’t have citrus fruits or drinks. Bananas are good. I think it is just a flare up. The hernia gets inflamed, xxx

Yes she has probably upped the meds for a fortnight to calm it all down so you have the appointment to go back and see. Hope it settles down in a few days. Anxiety will make it worse so try and not get stressed if you can. If there was anything serious they would have told you and the Paramedics would have taken you in last night. Take care and get well soon.

ps. I just had a flare up and the inflammation can take several weeks to calm down so don’t worry.
