Hi, I’m due to have my Umbilical Hernia fixed. Local anaesthetic because of my heart problems, has anyone had this op?

Umbilical Hernia
Hi, thanks for your reply, just a bit concerned as what to expect. I’m having it done at the Spire privately, no chance of having it done on NHS with their massive waiting lists. At 75 I don’t want to wait until it’s so bad it strangulates.
Thanks for the reassurance.
My husband has had this but he had a GA. He has HF and an ICD fitted and the op didn't impact his heart at all. He's also had an double groin hernia op without any problems. If there were any concerns the private hospital wouldn't be doing the op, they refused my husband as they don't have the back up facilities the NHS has if anything went wrong. They're always very cautious with my husband as he has had a previous cardiac arrest.
Hi Velvet Sky, I opted for local when I had epigastric hernia (just above umbi) repaired. They wanted to do GA and I had no other medical problems at the time but I don't like GA's and asked for Local. All went well however it was more uncomfortable in that area as it is central, think a few weeks recovery and take it easy. Have loose clothes handy. Good Luck
I’m sure you’ll be fine. I’ve just had a bilateral inguinal hernia operation under general anaesthetic, and recovering well. I’m 74 and have heart failure, and in February last year survived a blockage to the left anterior descending artery (the widow maker) that left me with 4 stents. I now have a small thrombus that’s being treated with different meds. My operation was also at a Spire private hospital as I was hitting my head against a brick wall via my GP. It was expensive as I don’t have insurance - but worth every penny. All the best to you and trust you’ll soon be up and running again.
Hi I’m waiting for a epigastric hernia repair. The surgeon says I will a day case . They haven’t said it will be with GA, I would much prefer a local if it’s possible. They have told me I will need to stop my clopidogrel 7 days prior to surgery . Apart from that , they don’t seem concerned at all .I have had one repaired 32 years ago , and recovered really quickly. Good luck
Hi I was just told by my GP on Friday I have two hernias one at each side of my hysterectomy scar I didn't know there were different types she just said hernias,at my left side the lump is bigger but not painful but the right side is it's really sore to touch and the pain travels down my leg. She has referred me but said the waiting times are bad unless it's urgent. I don't know anything about hernias and now I am quite worried I just assumed it was a general It never crossed my mind it would be a local the thought scares me to death and the waiting time as well in case something happens, I have had a heart transplant but I don't know if that would be affected by a general char
Hi, if you’ve got through a heart transplant then a hernia repair is nothing to worry about.
I was diagnosed with a umbilical hernia a few years ago, keep going for 6 month checkups. They want me to loose weight as they said it could happen again, proving hard to loose weight as I have arthritis in my knees and walking or bending painful. Only if it causes pain will they do something.
