how much GTN do people use on average through the day. I’ve used it three times. Four the other day.

Just curious how much people use?

First of all please check with pharmacy about this question. But, my understanding is that you take it, wait 5 min, take again, if pain still doesn't settle call ambulance. But as for how many times during the course of 24hrs, really should be reported to gp. Maybe a tweek of your medication will help. Take care. Moni

The usual advice is if you need to use your GTN spray more than 2 or 3 times 5 minutes apart you need to ring 111 or 999.

If you are having to use your GTN intermittently more frequently during the day then I suggest you contact your GP or Cardiologist.

As I have vasospastic angina, I have my own individual instructions from my Cardiologist. This is something that you could discuss with your Cardiologist.

I have an agreed admission protocol.

I don't personally use GTN spray as it works briefly but I then experience worse rebound coronary vasospasms.

I use mine about once a week. I think I’m on about 10 days currently.

This certainly wasn’t always the case and I think starting on the the long release version made a big difference, in my case.

I had angina for 10 years which immediately disappeared when I stopped doing whatever had brought it on. One night I felt I needed to deal with the pain and took 1 dose. It was the first time I had EVER used the spray so I saw it as a warning sign, notified the doctor the next morning who told me to go immediately to our local assessment clinic.

Long story short, I emerged 10 days later having had a quadruple bypass. I think you need to get a second opinion if you are using it as frequently as you seem to imply.

Its not what you might have hoped for but that sounds good news. Can you keep us all informed?

i use it on average once a month. So 3-4 time a day sounds a lot. When my use increases suddenly, the Drs are interested and investigate, and it usually ends with them changing my meds.

The Cons said to me.’ We would like you to have no angina, it shows your heart is straining’,

perhaps once a month or so, am on a slow release tablet, now before I used it once a day before exercise. 3 -4 times a day sounds like your angina isnt controlled to well- I would contact the cardiologist or GP

I very very rarely used it after I was prescribed the anti-anginals Isosorbide Mononitrate and Diltiazem It takes a week to 10 days to acclimatise to them but then no more GTN hits! I was prescribed then after a private cardiologist consultation. GPs don't seem to have the experience (well my former one didn't)!

yeah. I work in the hospital. So I was walking down the corridor and bumped into one of the cardiologist. He said my GTN use is way off kilter. Had me admitted. ECG is normal which is inconsistent with pain. Diagnosed ACS with crescendo angina. Angio some time this morning followed by a stem I hope.

I use copious amounts of gtn when I am in pain ,maybe 10 times in a day more or less . Once or twice a week more or less. I need it to keep on top of the pain . But I have microvascular angina and spasm so it's different . Good luck in the hospital.

Went for my angio yesterday. Assuming I would have stents. Unfortunately, all of the arteries are in-patentable. So I have to have a CABG. This wasn’t the news I wanted. So the pathway is, stuck on a coronary care ward. I’m around ten days, I’ll be moved to Southampton General. And undergo a triple bypass.

I get that it’s the news that you didn’t want to hear but it’s a way forward. Waiting 10 days to be transferred will be difficult but at least you are in safe hands. Keep posting on here and let us know how you are doing.
