I find it really hard to see why some posts are removed and feel when removed some explanation should be stated. Does anyone else agree or know if its possible to get tsome explanation.

An example, this was posted and I can see it had 6 replies but now its REMOVED?!

I believe it’s been removed because it’s thought to have breached community guidelines in some way and forum members probably brought it to the attention of HU. In terms of getting a response, this is an issue which many members have had when being reported or banned. An explanation is rarely, if ever given. I’m sorry the post was taken down. Was it a case of you wanting to get in touch with the member that posted it for their research?

I am always interested in research! I just feel frustrated that I couldn't even read the whole post, just the headline and a couple of lines then 'removed' NO EXPLANATION!

Thank you for taking the tome to reply, appreciated.

I think the post was about her life as a heart patient from when she was diagnosed at weeks old but is fine now. I read it and it seemed more like touting for business to me "I'm a photographer, have me photograph you" sort of thing.

My understanding is that the OP was not willing to seek the BHF's permission where they have to show they meet the appropriate guidelines including those on confidentiality. It has to be remembered there have been fake researchers on this forum before and that there are extremely vulnerable members. Why they were not willing to engage with the BHF is quite puzzling.

Thank you, agreed Michael that is puzzling and suspicious! I wish a little explanation could be added to the 'this has been removed' message.

I personally think it is both a lack of time and experience. In this modern world of emails and txt spk many can be unnecessarily brief. I find abbreviations like "Pls reply" in appointment reminder texts quite irritating. In my last job before I was axed weeks after returning after my quadruple bypass I was involved in some medical research (I worked on sensors and analysis of the data generated). The standards are set quite high but in anomolising the data some individuals go over the top. One person removed age from some data that made it meaningless. Yes remove DateOfBirth but not Age!

Text speak has its place but it shouldn't spill over into formal writing eg appointment notifications! I do use text speak a lot personally. Research data needs to be completely robust.

I guess we all need to remember that HU is a mega harvester of research derived from its forums through the lived and shared experiences of folk

. For some mad reason however the BHF is populated by not only zealous moderators but equally mega zealous members who offer no support other than feeding their egos. Ain’t seen it on any other forum.

Personally I ve removed a bequest to BHF and just raised a complaint about this particular forum and some of its nonsense eg covid and it’s impact on the world -its a medical fact not a work of fiction

I only wish we could block members who annoy us and by golly there’s plenty.

I don’t understand why a post on what I assume was about photography is controversial. I understand that this isn’t the venue to post personal photographs but surely talking about photography is quite benign?

more to do with research & community rules which I can understand. However we weren't to know that as its removed with no explanation 🤷🏽‍♀️

I see. I’ve seen posts being removed when things turn nasty and people make personal insults, so I see the sense in closing down topics when it gets out of hand like that. On the other hand, I’ve seen others posting on the other heart forum what is blatant medical misinformation and nothing is done about it at all. I’ve also had the experience of some random blowing in from who knows where becoming quite aggressive and then stomping off in a huff, and although I am well able for these types, nobody wants to witness some crazy rando stirring up trouble and becoming aggressive towards an individual they’ve taken exception to. All that is a far cry from people being shut down for no obvious reason, or just because someone has a different take on something. The patients should always come first and we all have needs for social support and even companionship with people going through similar experiences.

I completely agree. Others have said a couple of randoms did become unpleasant 😔 its so sad. It stops genuine forum users like the rest of us from benefitting and accessing advice & support.

I know where you are coming from and you have been treated very badly. I find it very sad that, this forum, which I've found really useful, is being spoilt by a few unpleasant people and moderatirs who are not fully investigating and getting the full story. People like your good self leave to the detriment of the forum.

I was lucky enough to read the original post and a number of replies before it was taken down. As I understand it the young person (originally from Poland and with a heart problem in the past) was interested in creating a collection of stories from other hearties and taking their photograph to add to their story to personalise it. One of the replies suggested it might be similar to the ‘heart-stories’ of The Heart Foundation, Australia. heartfoundation.org.au/sear...

I was interested enough to follow the weblink and, if this was what was intended, I, for one, thought it an excellent idea and was going to sign up for it.

The word ‘research’ was mentioned and a number of replies went off on a tangent on this subject. In my opinion it was not really ‘research’ as such but more an exploration of the feasibility of the young person’s idea and inspiration.

It would have been nice to discuss the subject in a civilised manner. Members could either contribute or walk on by. But of course a couple of members took exception to it and it has subsequently been removed. The reason for the removal is a mystery to us all because no explanation is given. The merits of the original post cannot be discussed because it has been removed.

There’s a growing list of things that I think could be usefully discussed on this site but they’re off limits. I fail to understand the zealousness with which some contributors are targeted often on the occasion of their first and only post.

I only usually look in on the forum on a Saturday but am having a long weekend. Rather than watch Babe Station (some of those women need to retire as they are past their best before date) I thought I would look in.I had aook at the Aussie web site mentioned by @BlossomInSpring and thought the content much the same but rather more colourful and fresh, and by default more expensive to set up. I could not find a Forum. I think people forget it is run with the HU template which is both old and flawed. It needs structuring like the Pensioners one with directories. The social thread should be in its own directory so jokes, weather, and so on all stand out!

Early breakfast then down to Devon with pedall to the rust!

Thank you for originally providing the Australian link. If the BHF were interested in improving their website The Heart Foundation, Australia would be a good place to look for ideas.

Sandra, the photographer, certainly appeared to be knowledgeable about model release forms and their use when publishing photographs. My initial impression was that all legal rights would be respected. (Impossible to verify now.)

Sandra seems to have left our forum but if she is monitoring this thread I hope she is not completely disheartened by the initial response. If there is any way to discuss her interesting project perhaps she can make contact with me by private message in order to keep on the right side of the moderators.

Yep, had reply deleted and never got answer as to Why from mods.

Hi HHH2017 ,

Thanks for sharing your concern around this recently deleted post.

As always with removed posts, the member is sent an email to explain as to why their post has been removed alongside a reminder of the terms of use and the community guidelines.

In order to keep our community safe, it is important that with any research request both the BHF and HealthUnlocked are informed and have approved the request.

Thanks for being part of the community,
