Yesterday had a Xmas card from my Wife's niece. she needs a Kidney transplant and has been placed on the list.
After talking it over both my wife and myself said she can have one of ours, the Question is at 70 and 72 would we be considered as donors ? anyone know. My wife being her Aunt, but I am O rh Neg Blood Group which may make it easier to match. We don't want to offer in case it raises her hopes then to be dashed. Anyone know anything about this ?
Regards

According to the publication there is no upper age limit in the UK for a living donor - but the donor must meet strict health criteria.
I think if it were me I would tell the niece I want to be tested to see if I'm a match - saying you want to be tested wouldn't be an unreasonable hope raising exercise and who knows, you or your wife could be just the match she needs.
I think although you are not that much older than me in view of your ages you need to speak to your GP first. He (she) might want to run an ECG, blood tests including kidney function, etc. The last thing you want is to raise hopes to have them dashed at the first hurdle.
Thanks Milkfairy and Sunnie good links which explain a lot. Didn't won't to Google, I rather trust people on here to give good info which you both have done.
What an amazingly generous gesture you are making. I think the earlier comments cover most things. Having a word with your GP seems a sensible first move. After over 50 years of diabetes my eGFR is reduced so would be unsuitable.
Well we have made the offer to start the match process either in Bournemouth or Southampton, or travel to Wales which can all be done in a day from our Home .
