Well the NHS has kicked in high gear since Tuesday. Lots of phone action and get to the Agnes hunt for a blood test by 2.30 Wednesday affo.Followed by those letters on rather grey paper, Go for a CT scan on Friday, ultrasound Wednesday and MRI Thursday, wow talk about a change in pace.

So Friday evening at 5.50 I rock up to Shrewsbury hospital, I know exactly what I am looking for the mobile CT scan unit. And I saw it when I went for my camera up through the nose and and then down the throat experience on Tuesday, so we park in the first car park and walk to the unit. This is in keeping with my take any opportunity for a brisk walk policy, and it's about a half kilometer walk (the royal Shrewsbury is fairly big) so I get to the mobile CT scanner with ten minutes to spare.

Rather a smart looking bit of kit, clean fairly new looking with a set of steps to the door of wonder, up the steps knock on the door and a pleasant young lady looks at the list, turn's and asked me to confirm my name and informs me that I am at the wrong mobile CT scanner.

I want the one by the other outpatients bit not the ENT bit, no the original one at the other side of the hospital.

Did I mention that the Shrewsbury hospital is big?

Thank klono that I was taught ten minutes early is on time. So it's time for a very brisk walk at around park run brisk, I find the right unit, and am on time just.

So it's in and on to the table and into the tumble dryer with a needle in my arm (actually a green cannula) eight minutes of buzzing, clunking and a pre recorded woman's voice saying "lie still don't swallow" (strange that a instruction not to swallow creates so much saliva) and then we are done and it's into the hospital for the half hour observation just incase I have a allergic reaction to the contrast gunk, I give the nurse the mandatory, I am on clopidog and asprin sthick.

Uh huh she says let's just take this off, and gives me a microscopic pice of cotton wool, while keeping one for herself. Out comes the cannula, and of course lots of people Juice.

That was probably the best bit her slightly shocked and vaugely panicked reaction to well working blood thinners.

We got it stopped with a decent size pice of cotton wool, and home in time for tea and biscuits, well sea bass and a mixed salad with savoury rice.

I really hope that I find the right ultra sound department on Wednesday, one wrong turn in that maze and I could find out I am six months gone and it's a boy.

Hi Rogo23

Your appointment on Friday sounds like it was quite eventful. I’m glad the appointment went well for the most part. Happy to hear they’re on the ball with all of your appointments, as they should be.

Perhaps, get to your next appointment even earlier on Wednesday, maybe 20 minutes beforehand, giving you plenty of time to find the right department.

Let us know how you appointments next week go.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞🏽.

All the best.

Tos

Thank you, I am definitely going to keep the post's, if only because around 1 in 3 of the general population have a brush with cancer, and as a hartie I may be able to say something that will help others.

So glad all your appointments have come through so quick. Wish you all the best. Sounds like a massive hospital so good you got there 10 minutes early! When do you get results from your scan?? x

The extremely helpful staff in the mobile unit said, sorry mate no idea we just scan (coffee seems a important part of the job as well) .So I am a little in the dark but Mr A wants to do the biopsy fast,he was going to do it without the scans if they took more than a couple of weeks.

So I expect ten to fifteen days.

Glad your scans come through quick, and you still have a sense of humour. Good luck hope they have caught in early.N. H S can get there finger out quick as we found a couple of years ago when my husband's prostate cancer reared it's ugly head again ( after being in remission for years). Scanned and diagnosed in two weeks after G.P letter

That is a rather upbeat thought, so I will cling to it, the fast response and diagnosis not the rearing of the ugly head bit.Wish him well from me, and thank you.

Thank you,as I said to tos92 I am going to post as it happens, one in three of us get some form of cancer. As a quadie hartie my experience may help others, so I am going to keep people in the loop, that is how Mr A described telling me about me so if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me.If I can give one person some help that is a win.

Glad you are back in touch with your laptop 😉.

Stay well.

Great post - it certainly made me smile. I've turned up at the wrong department before... "oh, you want the one in sector H, it's...." They then go on to describe where to go as though I've got a well developed mental map of the hospital. I'm now well experienced in carrying out research to minimise these sort of events, but still get caught out from time to time.

Pleased to see the NHS has found the gearstick and ramped up the investigation phase. Let's hope it all comes to the good. Keep us posted.

All the best,

Gerald

I am going to give a running commentary, because Cancer+ bypass might be useful for other forum members. And talking about it, well tapping on a phone screen helps.

Thanks for the best wishes, I take all the help I can get.

Keep positive... I'm sure all will be well. 😀 My best friend has just got the thumbs up after having had bladder cancer. It's been quite a journey for him, but one I've been able to help out with to a certain extent and that was just through regular contact via Zoom since we live 80 miles apart. He was there for me after my HA, stents and bypass.

Okay you have me beat, Hart attacks ✅ bypass ✅ didn't get any stents, they woz mean 😂.Thanks for the support.

Ah but, my HA was only a light one and the bypass was elective, so they count for fewer points. I reckon you're ahead by a mile. 😉
