Upper intestinal bleeding
Hi Kibuli
I don’t have any personal experience of Edoxaban. However, I just wanted to say that I hope you have reported this bleeding that you’re experiencing to your GP to see if you can get a change in your meds. This is not necessarily a symptom you want to be experiencing I’m sure.
I hope others on Edoxaban come along to share their experiences.
All the best.
Tos
Thank you jeanjeannie50 for your response unfortunately the doctors aren't even considering the fact that it could be my meds..they have given me a ct scan and now want to do a colonoscopy ect!
Thank you Tos92 for replying to me I was just interested in how many people have experienced the bleeding...as the doctors have ignored my fear of it being caused by my meds and want to do all these different invasive tests instead. I have had a CT scan 2 weeks ago which showed nothing!!
I’ve just had a look on the NHS and bleeding is a side effect of Edoxaban but, it doesn’t state upper intestinal bleeding as one.

Have you got anymore tests lined up to investigate the bleeding?
Make sure you record this episode of bleeding after taking Edoxaban on the Yellow Card government website:

Sorry to hear of your experience. I don’t take Edoxaban but any of the anticoagulants can cause bleeding albeit rare. I certainly wouldn’t be happy with the diagnosis unless it’s a case of elimination of anything serious first. If there is nothing wrong with the tests then it has to be the medication, but they don’t need to be hanging around.
Hi, I'm not on Edoxaban, but, I'm on an Anti-Coagulant in Warfarin. Since April last year I've been admitted to Hospital on five occasions because of GI bleeding.
Having seen how they deal with the bleeds I can fully understand the indication to carry out a Colonoscopy and indeed a Endoscopy. In my case I had three of each.
The first Colonoscopy showed that I had Angiodysplasia, bleeding in the Colon and a couple of Polips, that wouldn't be picked up by a CT Scan.
Whilst Warfarin may have contributed to my most recent admission, there is no way of being certain.
To be honest, the hospital are following tried and tested protocol.
Best Wishes

Thank you Heedio61 for replying , I'm sorry you have been through this. Yes what you have said makes full sense to me. Even though I am afraid of tests. You have made me understand that they are necessary. One more question ...did you have to stop the Warafin for 3 days to have the colonoscopy and endoscopy? If so did it effect you in any way...as I'm afraid of the consequences if I do need to.
Hi, It's difficult to read much into it with me. As I was hospitalised for the first, I was immediately taken off Warfarin and put on Tinzaparin, a week before the Colonoscopy. This kept on happening for the other admissions. Mind after the third and final Colonoscopy, they couldn't find anything that time, but, I had yet another bleed a couple off weeks later, and the suspicion is it was Warfarin linked because my INR had spiked. No doubt, the tests aren't nice, but, I just saw them as a necessary evil. Forty days in hospital overall and endless trips back and forth for tests. Thankfully I've been clear since Mid-March.
Thank-you for answering me I'm so sorry for all you've been through and hope you will finally be free of anymore tests...Good luck for the future.
Just to say I've been on Edoxaban for 3 years and had no issues but that's not to say people cant suffer side effects from medications. Hope your tests can reassure you.
I have also been on Edoxaban for 3 years and so far, so good. I hope that you get answers soon. Best wishes Marianne.
