It's not uncommon. It was discussed in detail during the Cardio Rehab course I attended, where most open heart surgery patients reported similar symptoms.
The most common cause is stretched muscles and sinews snapping across the new ridges and undulations in the chest bone. It feels like it's the bone itself opening and closing, but it's not. It's the muscles and sinews healing or accommodating themselves to the sternum's new profile. It'll ease up over time.
Good luck!
Good answer, same here and still reminds me now and then { 2 years }
Hi SJX130. My hubby finally stopped 'clicking' after about 6 months. To be fair, we missed the subtle noises!!!😂. Hope all is OK with both of you. Love and hugs. Jan xxxx
