Leaky Aortic Valve

Before Christmas I was told I had a heart murmur. Following an ECG my GP said it showed left ventricular hypertrophy. She sent me for an echocardiogram which the technologist said didn’t show LVH but a leaky aortic valve. I haven’t had the official results (not sent to my GP) and my telephone consultation with a member of the Cardiac department has been postponed from June to November. I am somewhat concerned as I don’t know what I should or shouldn’t be doing. I take tablets for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My only symptom is breathlessness or exertion. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Do not sit back and wait for your appoint. Ask to be put on a cancellation list.If someone fails to show up or lets the dept. know they cannot get to their appoint. be ready to go in place of them .It has worked quite well for me a few times. You might also want to express your concern at the breathlessness and also use that as a way of getting your appoint. brought forward.

Thank you. I will try this (if I can get through to the correct department). Another frustration, getting cut off etc).

Hi ToynbecSounds like an awful lot to process! There not much you can do, until you get the results of how leaky your valve is there mild to moderate, moderate to severe and just severe, erm mine is moderate to severe for the regurgitation ( leaking), and I have stenosis ( narrowing). You should take some comfort that you haven't already heard back from your cardiologist which means it might be mild leaking. But you are having symptoms of breathlessness on exertion so could be moderate but you won't know for definite until you get results which would majorly stress me out 😔😭. Just a few more months to go will definitely fly by 😉. Wish you all the best and hope you get your results soon and that will give you some reassurance and peace of mind ❤️.

Thank you for your advice and words of encouragement. I feel the NHS is letting us down badly at the present time. I worked in the NHS for 31 years before retiring 10 years ago and feel things certainly have not improved.

hi, I feel your pain

I too was diagnosed with a heart murmur in January, the doc said she thought it was a ‘floppy valve’. I haven’t had any results and neither has my GP.

I understand that my condition isn’t serious as I hope I would’ve heard by now but it is frustrating not to hear anything. I hope you hear soon and everything is ok x

Thank you for your message. Like you, I just want my results and to be told what I should or shouldn’t be doing. Should we cancel our trek to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro 😅
