FFR Appointment

Hi, I wonder if anyone has experienced anything similar to me. In November 2021 after a few months of angina I had an angiogram which showed a blockage in my distal LAD. In February I was then sent for a Myocardial Perfusion Scan and Stress Test which showed 5% ischaemia and then in May 2022 I had a balloon angioplasty. All was well until Sept when I had some chest pains and I had another angiogram in November where the cardiologist checked the artery and it was absolutely fine but he referred me for another Scan and Stress test which I had on the 31st March. Today I received a letter asking me to attend a pre op and procedure for an FFR which as I understand is another type of angiogram. I certainly wasn't expecting that. I called the department and they think it is due to something found in the stress and scan test 2 weeks ago. I really thought I was all done and everything was ok so I am a little worried what they have found. I wonder if they have found more ischemia or blockages. I am calling the cardiologist tom morning to find out more but I wondered if anyone else has had anything similIar happen?

I’m not sure but to FFR is fractional flow reserve and is an indicator of blood flow. If less than 0.75 they there is something I.e. blockage restricting blood flow and needs addressing. 0.75 to 0.80 is a grey area that is down to clinician to decide whether to investigate further. 0.80 and above your ok (might have blockage but not requiring intervention).

Not always due to blockage, I had 0.77 and my issue is not due to blocked arteries. It’s pants being in the grey area as no obvious reason they felt at the time.

Mine was identified on CT Scan.

I may have misunderstood though so ignore at will.

Thanks for that, it makes sense. Sounds like something was seen on my scan 2 weeks ago. As far as I was concerned though my blockage from last year had been cleared (checked in Nov) so maybe it has closed again or there is a new one! Oh well we will see. Thanks for replying 😊

it was my 0.77 FFR that prompted the need for angiogram and possible stents - until they went in and saw my congenital heart defect and downed tools.

It’s good they are checking, good luck 👍
