hi , I was diagnosed with a systolic heart murmur at the end of July, in A&E and had an echo 5 weeks later. I haven’t heard any results and it’s about 6 weeks ago. I’m assuming everything is fine and there is no need to contact me about it?

Dear Puppyraiser

A warm welcome to the forum, I hope that you find it as supportive as I and many others have.

One main lesson you will learn on reading the posts and answers on here is NEVER assume anything with the NHS at the moment.

It has worried you enough to ask the question on here and that is not right.

Contact your GP and see if they have had your results back, or if you have access to your hospital records the results should be recored there.

I am so sorry that you are in limbo as the not knowing is the worst part.

Take care and please keep us informed

I’ve been having regular echos for about 12 years. I would chase up the Cardiology secretary - they can probably tell you how far behind the medics are with writing up letters. It took six months to get the results from my last echo - Cardiology are swamped.

One would hope that if there’s a problem they would let you know sooner, but in my experience that’s not necessarily the case - so do keep trying. Best wishes.

thank you for this, I don’t know if there’s an issue due to a doctor in A&E who requested the echo rather than a cardiologist or a GP. I think I’ll chase it up after Easter x

Hi, please definitely follow it up. And don't accept "we would contact you if there was anything wrong". You need to know for sure what the results show and you need to know that someone has actually looked at them! The NHS is so overwhelmed at the moment it is easy to get lost in the system and things overlooked. I know this from experience. Be your own advocate, you deserve it!

Best wishes 🙂
