I saw my GP in Nov 21 because of left sided short lived chest pain- I thought It might be GI related as I have a hiatus hernia. He suggested referral to cardiology. Finally seen by cardiology early March 23 ( 60+ weeks after referral).
I was seen in A and E in March 22 with an episode of dizziness, heaviness in left arm. At time told the ECG was normal sinus rythm and my cardiac enzymes werent raised so they thought it was musculoskeletal pain ( I was in A and E for 12 hours).
Was shocked when the cardiologist said that altho he didnt think the pain sounded cardiac my ECG was abnormal and showed an old anterior infarct although he didnt think was the case and he would refer me for an echo. The appointment was very rushed and there was no time to ask any questions. He wasnt clear whether the ECG had changed since March or the one the GP did.
Spoke to my GP who said the inital ECG they did had not been normal and showed poor r wave progression which can be normal variant or indicate old infarct.
Given my experience of waiting for ages I saw a private cardiologist this week- she said the ECG was abnormal, wasnt sure if there had been an infarct and I needed an echo and a CTCA. Now have appt for echo in a month but waiting to hear re CTCA- even having it privately there is a bit of a wait. NHS waits are much longer.
I also have a neurological condition( not vascular) and again diagnosis for this was a bit traumatic as they lost my MRI for a year so I thought things were fine when they werent.
I thought I didnt have risk factors for CHD - apart from age ( 61) and raised BP ( mostly controlled) so quite shocked and feeling a bit dispirited. Also trying not to worry about whether if I need treatment that requires intervention there will be a long wait.
