I've had this lingering head cold for ages now... about 4 to 6 weeks. It seems everyone is getting it, but I just can't shift it.
Blocked sinuses are giving me a headache, paracetamol don't work but cocodamol do, but I don't like to take them too often.
Anyway... sometimes I'm kept awake all night by a repeating pattern: I fall asleep and a short time later wake up with a fright - palpitations in my chest and a super-anxious feeling that something is terribly wrong. I take stock, calm down and go back to sleep and it repeats.
The worrying thing is that it is accompanied by an agina type pain in my chest which subsides very quickly without even taking the GTN spray. Later that day I will have a painful angina attack, which subsides with GTN this time. Then I'll be fine (apart from the lingering sinus headache) for days again. But at some point it recurs.
I am not the kind of person who ever suffers with anxiety, and have never had a panick attack. I deal with stress very well, and it's only when I'm asleep I get this pattern.
Do you think this could just be tiny angina attacks triggered by whatever cold virus I have?

Hello
I do have anxiety and I would wake up feeling what was like a panic attack but knew it wasn't and I was right so I would get it checked out it could be the cold you have but I would still talk with your Doctor
Let us know how you get on x
Having the same cold for 6-8 weeks is a long time. I have never heard of this before. I would get that checked out.
For the heart related issues which could definitely be linked to whats going on with the cold. I do get this during the night where it seems my heart goes into a slow rythim and wake back up. Or suffering fro. Lots of skipped beats where i cant sleep. Once i drift off, bam im awake. Worse thing is, sleep is one of the best things for heart palpations. Lack of it, and they can increase.
Also i am coming down with a sore throat as i type this. Feel groggy and my heart is skipping about like Muhammad ali. Aniexity is kicking in and worrying if the heart failure is getting worse or if its just because i am getting a cold...
Dear you,
Sorry for a late answer to your question and a worrying one it is.
Taking on the mantra that I am not medically trained, what you are suffering with I have heard of before and to be honest with you its a question that my heart nurse asks me all the time if I suffered with this. { the panic breathing sleep horror part }
You must report this, medication can certainly do this feeling you have on sleeping and as for the sensation of a continued cold this also can be a side effect of many of the drugs.
I swing between a runny nose and a stuffed up one and judging by peoples reactions to it, it must mimic a cold { after using the dreaded test kit to prove it aint anything else }
Mine is without doubt medication based, but unwilling at the moment to rock the boat as hopefully, in my case, time usually rids me of any side effects.
Hi don't usually write just read but this is so familiar. Been just the same for the past month or so, did the tests as you did and nothing. Several visits to the doctors plus A&E twice and nothing shows. Latest was last night(A&E now home) as difficulty breathing and had the shakes. Doctors are now going to try antibiotics and on my 3rd round of Steroids. Whole family has had whatever this is and it knocks you sideways for a day or two then OK but comes back. Feeling sleep deprived as same pattern but nothing seems to work, hopefully the antibiotics might. Not overly concerned with heart issue as all test say OK but can be a little scary, as all ailments during the night. Have GTN tablets which I use which are milder than the spray but seems to bring the levels back. It's definitely a puzzle which I'm working with my doctors to sort.
