I have AF and my cardio doctor said that he wants me to have a angiogram to check for furring of the artery before I go on medication
Is that normal or has he just told me that but is really looking for something else

They wanted me to have an invasive coronary angiogram when I was referred to the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic based on chest pain I'd had 6 years earlier, which was checked out at the time. As I was having no problems at the time I refused and had CT angiogram instead, which was fine. It was explained to me as the gold standard, and if you had any blockage it could be dealt with then and there.I think your best bet would be to ask the referring doctor why he wants you to have this particular test.
As many people get given an AF diagnosis fairly casually, and sent off with medication, not really knowing what they should do re lifestyle changes, etc, I think your doctor is looking at it from all angles and wanting to make sure he is doing his best for you.
