Hi, I used to enjoy cold showers twice a day and also after excercise before the heart attack exactly 16 weeks ago, 4 emergency stents inserted and the pile of meds each day I'm now feeling good but was wondering if anyone takes cold showers/ cold therapy after heart attack? thanks

Cold Therapy After Heart Attack?
I did cold water swimming but doctor has said no to that now. But I can enjoy my cycling and kayaking when I feel up for it. I was also a climber/hiker. I got a new dog 🐕 and have been clocking up the walking miles and yesterday I was out hiking in Tyndrum area of Scotland a place I know very well with a few of my friends. Long day but good. Bit tired and a wee bit stiff this morning but definitely a giant step forward to things I had been so used to before my heart attack and stent treatment. 9 months on.. but check with your doctor before cold water showers etc.. there is light at the end if you want it. Slow and steady wins the race. Good luck with recovery.
I had heart attack in 2017 with 4 stents .
I regularly take cold shower to finish after hot shower .just remember to continue to breathe well and fill lungs with air when cold showers hits your body .don’t hold your breath ,as need keep oxygen going to heart and lungs .i have also swam quite a few times in sea with no problems ..
Maybe check with your g p on the extent of heart attack and be safe 1st but this has been my experience

Hi Blindheart. I was advised to avoid any swimming for 4 months after my event 10 years ago and I was 12 years older than you the time. I do plenty of outdoor activities in all weathers but always dress appropriately to keep my body at normal temperatures. I stick to a pool or a warm sea for swimming and I can't advise on cold showers but be aware that your heart will have had some damage and blood circulation may be affected. The handshake test is a good one - I always used to have the warmest hand and now usually the coldest. Any sudden cold shock leaves me breathless with a bit of a recovery period. You could go colder by degrees and test your comfort limits.
