Just had my cardiac mri scan, but previously a 48hr ecg monitor which showed a marked increase in my ectopics. Cardiologist had just prescribed Diltiazem, 60mg slow release 3 times a day. I’m so nervous about starting these, just wondered how others have managed on them.

new medication worries
Hi 24623057 .
I am not on Diltiazem, but I am on another calcium channel blocker called Verapamil. I believe they come under the same category of medicines.
I have been taking 120mg modified release tablets twice a day for a year now. Initially I noticed a low pulse rate on it, as it works to lower/stabilise the heart rate. However, this is a normal side effect and passed as I became used to the drug. The good thing about these types of drugs is that the dose can be adjusted to suit your circumstance depending on how you get on with it.
From my personal experience, it seems like a safe drug. Of course, always follow your cardiologist’s advice. Just thought I provide you with some reassurance
Good luck!
I was recently changed to Diltiazem from Bisoprolol. My initial dose was 200mg,it controls my HR but my BP was high so my dose was put up gradually to 500mg which is the maximum dose.Been on since September 2022 and things are now settled and I don't really feel any side effects so good luck, you shoukd be fine but we all react differently to medication.🤞🤞
