My partner, aged 60, had a HA 5 yrs ago ….no symptoms or warning signs. Had immediate stent and has sine been on usual cocktail of medicines incl avorstatin ( first 80 mg the 1 yr ago reduced to 40 mg daily). He has never recovered his spark and still sleeps excessively and generally has feeling of lethargy and lack of concentration and short term memory. …also some strange odd pains in arm ( discussed with dr but nothing suggested)
A few days ago I realised a change in mood …more able to concentrate ie. Follow storyline on tv drama, more engaged generally and beginning to have better recall. Its like a different person has e merged! It turned out he had decided to stop his statins a week or so back. So …I know you are not supposed to stop suddenly and not without medical advice and have said this …but at the end of the day the decision is his surely? Hes tried on a number of occasions to discuss with GP but with changes in practice, Covid etc its not easy to get to see same dr and build a proper relationship as in old days. He’s never been referred back to original hosp consultant who did treatment and has usual yearly blood tests and ecg…always normal. Cholesterol always been normal. …takes Losarton, bisprodol and aspirin daily.
Id like to support him with looking at evidence and what the risks are in stopping v the side effects. Weve agreed he stops them for 2 weeks to see if this difference continues….if it does what would people suggest might be the best course of action? Im sure others have been in similar situations and would be interested to see what options there might be.
