I was just wondering if anyone gets bad episodes of ectopic beats when they get ill e.g with an infection or flu - I have only had bad episodes when I have been ill so I figured there must be a correlation and I am only 19. The last time I had a bad episode I actually had tonsillitis and my GP said that would be the cause. Now I am struggling with flu like symptoms, cough and headache etc and having quite a few ectopics, along with a fast heart rate and I was just a bit worried. Let me know if you get similar and if it is just the heart reacting to the virus/infection. It is driving me nuts !

I’m in my late 20s and I believe this is pretty normal for some people. If I am ever unwell (especially if I have a temperature) my ectopic beats are worse and I get an extremely fast heart rate.
It happens to me too, and my ectopics can last ages. I think it's just our bodies trying harder to fight the virus/infection. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but they're not fun at all are they?
It's happening to me right now and was the first signal of a chest infection. Yesterday, my heart rate was up over 100 all day and was skipping up and down from there to 120.Saw the doc, started antibiotics. Already feeling a bit better and my heart rate this morning is a steady 85. So far!
So it does seem likely to be connected.
Hope you feel better soon. Xx Moy
Dear alexandral7
I think what you have describe is just how serious Influenza really is and the importance of us older ones { or with suppressed immune systems } in having the jab to fight it.
Certainly Influenza can cause all sorts of problems including with the heart as the body fights off the infection touring around your body trying to find a foot hold..
This is why it is is nonsense when so many say that they have had/have got Flue when really they had/have a common cold.
As you know, there is no mistaking having Influenza.
Get well soon and hopefully once you have past the infection stage that the symptoms will calm down.
It is good that your Dr is keeping eye on you as in rare cases { and I mean rare } damage can be done to the body after Influenza has past.
A higher heart rate when you’re unwell (especially if you have a temperature) is normal and can happen for anyone.
I too have increased ectopic heartbeats when I’m unwell; I was told that anxiety can also make them worse so if you’re worried about it, it might be worth having a chat with your GP or consultant to see if they can give you some additional reassurance 🙂
I know it can be an unpleasant experience so I sympathise entirely, I hope you feel better very soon and your ectopics settle 💛
It happens to me too and I am 69 and had them for years. As others have said it is just part of how our hearts work. I wouldn't say you every get used to them but you begin to realise that it is normal for you.
