pain after having a stent fitted
Hi and welcome. Having only had your Stent fitted a week ago may I, respectfully, suggest that you are probably trying to do too much too soon.
Remember, your heart is a muscle which will have been bruised/bashed about in the process of having the Stent fitted to say nothing about the events which led up to the need for the Stent in the first place.
When I had my HA and Stent fitted a year ago the Royal Papworth and the Cardio Rehab people kept advising little but regular exercise i.e. a very gentle 5 minutes once or twice a day and no more from the first 2 - 3 weeks followed by a gradual increase to 30 minutes after a month.
If I were you I would ease off and give your heart a chance to heal itself and also to allow the Stent to bed in properly.
Take care.
It is not unusual to have some pain for awhile after having a stent and can be similar to any previous pain you may have had. Remember you have had some trauma. Having had two stents on two separate occasions I do remember having some pain and discomfort which given time will pass. I would also say it sounds like you are trying to do too much. Just listen to your body, be active but rest as well. Build up slowly and you will get there. If though you are really worried contact your Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse. Hope all is we with you soon.
it’s bound to hurt at first Sarsy60. The artery has been stretched to accommodate the stent. You’ve had heart surgery. Take it easy for a while. It will get better!
thanks for the advice, I shall definitely take it easy now, as I know my limitations
I had a heart attack and stents fitted 11 months ago. As i live alone and used to doing everything for my self, I was getting to the point of wondering why i was so tired all the time. I didn't get the class rehab as at the time covid meant there was no actual groups so exercise ideas came out on a piece of paper. Not seeing anyone meant I started doing too much. When i spoke to the pharmacist a few weeks ago to discuss my collection of medicines i raised the issue of tiredness and slight pains in the chest. He said that i was doing too much every day and it was becoming a greater case of wearing myself out with no time to recover. He suggested that i should do a bit one day then take it easy the next then i would be able to do more the day after then rest again etc etc. I have found that it is helping considerably and i am not feeling tired out so much.
The effect on the heart is great and it takes a long time to recover and i have had people say it could be a year or more depending on how much it was affected by the attack or condition.
I would definitely take it easy for a few weeks. Take care.
hi Sarsy60, I had my stent fitted 17 days ago after 2 weeks of unstable angina on bed rest in hospital. I still have pain and get so breathless doing next to nothing. Like you I had no information on leaving hospital I thought I’d be fine after a couple of days but sounds like it’s pretty much normal. Take care and listen to your body x
